Description

1969 Plymouth Road Runner Convertible restoration project.A very desirable 4-speed, Air Grabber optioned car in Scorch Red and performance hood stripes.I bought this recently as a restoration project for myself. But I am away from home living in a townhouse for the next few years and do not have all my tools and equipment. I have realized that the job is too big for me right now. I can restore all the small items, but I don’t have the equipment or the facilities to do the heavy items. Also can't use powertools here without annoying the neighbors, so very frustrating!

The body was hand stripped by the previous owner and repainted with PPG epoxy primer and urethane single stage paint in correct R6 code Scorch Red. I have all the brands and tint mixture ratios for the paints.

Condition:

Body.Body retains original floor pans and rear quarters, both of which have been patched for rust repairs. The trunk floor has been patched in the center but is mostly original. All other exterior sheet metal was also stripped and is factory original and rust free with little to no patching. The doors were replaced with dry originals. The original doors come with the car. Note that the patch repairs on both rear quarters were damaged during transport to Florida, so it does need some light body repair and repaint on the rear quarter panels. I have some touch up paint and also have the correct mix formula for the current paint job.

The car will come with new AMD front and rear bumper bars, still in their boxes.I also have the original bumpers, which would require restoration if you wanted to use them instead.Convertible top needs to be restored, and the car comes with a brand new Electron Top black convertible top with glass rear window and front pad.

Engine.Engine is a Road Runner 383 4-barrel with a correct date code, but a different VIN.It has been rebuilt. The carb is the original Carter and has been completely restored to new condition.

Under hood.Original Air Grabber, complete, undamaged and in excellent condition. The rubber seal and the screws and assembly clips should be replaced.Original 26” heavy duty radiator. Fan and pulleys have been dipped and blasted, ready for paint.

Interior. The seats are in good condition but require re-upholstery.I have a complete new interior from Legendary Upholstery - New H2X front bench seat upholstery plus the seat padding kit; new rear seat H2X bench seat upholstery plus padding kit; new interior rear quarter panel upholstery; new carpet. The plastic interior rear quarter panels have both had speaker cutouts so either need to be used for speakers, restored, or replaced.

The dash is in good condition, not yet restored but cleaning up very nicely, still with an excellent original Road Runner decal.Original Chrysler Solid State AM radio, plus a spare.I am currently restoring the original steering wheel, and have a correct 1969 horn pad.

Steering and suspension.Suspension components all need to be restored.I have dipped and blasted most of the small items.Lower control arms are in great condition, blasted, ready for paint.Upper control arms probably need replacing. Tie rod ends are in great shape, need new ends.Strut rods in good shape but I would probably replace.K-frame has not yet been stripped but is in good shape. Rear springs are unrestored. If I keep the car I will be replacing with new springs but blast and paint the two lower leaves to preserve the part number/date codes. Car comes with a complete new set of Moog upper and lower ball-joints, and bushings.

Trim and decals. The car will come with a correct complete set of Mopar approved OER decals. All the stainless trim is in fabulous condition and is largely restored and polished. The rear quarter pot metal belt trim corners need restoring/replacing. The tail light bezels are nice but could be either restored or replaced due to light pitting.

4-speed transmission. The transmission is a correct dated unit that has not been rebuilt but checks out fine. The bell housing is the original part number 11-inch cast unit.

Wheels.4 x Original Magnum 500s.I haven’t restored them yet, but they have polished up very nicely.Just need to dip, remove any surface rust, paint the blackouts and polish.

All other parts / hardware bagged and tagged. Most have been dipped and or blasted, so are rust free and ready for paint or immediate use. If you have a decent workshop, this is an easy project to finish. My workshop gear is all several thousand miles away, so the project is a little too much with what I have here in Florida.
