1967 Plymouth Belvedere Convertible SOLID Southern Project
Description
Recent Estate find......I purchased this car from the widow of the previous owner. He was in the process of performing a driver restoration on the car and unfortunately passed away 8 years ago at an early age. When he passed, the car had a new top, new gas tank, tires, recovered seats and he was in the process of installing a double roller timing chain. However, time has not treated those additions well.
Anyway, I am offering the car for sale as a very solid Georgia project car.....1967 Plymouth Belvedere convertible, 273 V8, three speed manual shift on the column, originally a blue car with black top and interior....very sharp. It was repainted once white many years ago....apparently because the original owners thought that it would be cooler in the summertime.... I have found no signs of rust or dent repair to the exterior....the rust you see is what is there....NOTHING hiding. As far as sheet metal is concerned it will need: lower quarter repair (trunk extensions may be repairable), minor door repair, minor repair to the right front fender (small pinholes), very minor repair to trunk trough, front floor and rear foot pans, lower radiator core support (has tears) and convertible trough repair to the left side.
The convertible specific items are in restorable condition....the top frame is good with some minor rust....all the trim is good...the wheel houses and associated parts are good....included is a new latch for passenger side...probably needs a new one for the driver side. The top is in driver condition and all glass is good with no chips or cracks. The undercarriage also appears to be in good condition...torque boxes are decent and all frame rails, torsion x-member, shock x-member are rot free. Amazingly, the trunk floor and tops of trunk extensions are in great shape with no holes as far as I can tell. The exterior of the car is very straight....minor dings and dents....mostly to the hood. The bumpers are great cores...grill and headlight buckets are OK...taillights will need lenses and re-chroming....trunk trim is OK... It is missing two pieces of trim on the right hand side....the rest of the trim is restorable.
The interior is mostly complete. The dash is decent...dash pad is nice with minor drying and cracking. The steering wheel is excellent...not sure if it is original? The seats were recovered but are not show quality...door panels will need to be replaced. The rear convertible panels are average and restoreable...holes for speakers, cracks and some small missing pieces.
The car was running and driving when the timing chain installation was started. Included is the original radiator, timing cover etc.....missing starter, air cleaner and some hardware. The engine does turn over and I was considering getting the car running however, I figured that the new owner will likely want to install a big block or hemi or ??? and getting it running was not going to increase the value. The transmission and linkage etc appear untouched and complete. The gas tank was new but to my surprise ...ethanol burned pinholes through it....it is toast unfortunately....thanx EPA!
The wheels are 14" painted Magnums....the tires are brand new but shot from sitting so long....rolls nicely.
Bottom line is that this is a great start...in fact, for the money this is an awesome start. If I did not already have a convertible to finish I would consider building this car but it needs to find another home and owner that can do it justice. I have more pictures available upon request.
Also, I do have a 1966 / 1967 b body HEMI four speed available that is a good core and would be a great addition to this project.
