Description

1965 Plymouth Baracuda

Land speed race car

If you have ever dreamed of setting a record at the Bonneville Salt Flats, this may be your chance! This car has only been run at two Speedweeks and has set records both times. The car was built with the intention of beating both records previously held by David Frieburger and Hot Rod magazine. On its very first outing the car exceeded the existing record by 40 mph.

The car was built by the professionals at Eddie's Chop Shop. Eddie has been responsible for building several record setting land speed vehicles and has been featured in many magazines including Hot Rod Magazine. Many considerations were built into the car to make it as safe as possible as well as enough potential to make it the fastest Competition Coupe to ever run at Bonneville.

The car has run a top speed of 291 Mph to date, and has much more potential in it. The car is capable of putting the new owner and their crew into the Bonneville 200 MPH club and possibly the 300 MPH chapter. This is an accomplishment that people can spend years chasing and not achieve. When the car ran 291 MPH it was only running a maximum of 13 psi of boost briefly in top gear. With the potential to run 40 plus psi of boost it has a huge amount of untapped potential left in it.

During the build process the car was taken to the Darko Wind Tunnel facility and was set up for the best combination of safety and stability while also reducing the aerodynamic drag coefficient. The testing proved the car to be extremely stable at high speed.

The car has had success with every outing. It is in race ready condition and could be driven at any of the upcoming LSR events across the country. After the 2016 season an upgrade was made to Indy aluminum block to get a larger journal cam bearing. The cam bearings were the only thing to show any wear after the initial running of the car. The new motor has 4 total runs on it all at low boost and low rpm's. The car was built to be able to run at low rpm and low boost to insure reliability. But with the potential to turn up the boost to make a historic run.

The car was initially set up to accommodate two drivers ranging up to 6'3 280 #s. This car can accommodate nearly any size driver comfortably. The current owner had no previous racing experience and drove the car to a record. The car inspires confidence due to its great handling and stability.

An internet search of Turbo Hemi powered land speed Barracuda will take you to an article done by Hot Rod Magazine upon completion of the car.

Car has passed all SCTA inspections without requiring any re-work.

The car was ran in a wind tunnel to collect information regarding drag coefficient's as well as downforce numbers to aid in suspension settup. A spreadsheet with all wind tunnel data is available with the car.

The car was tuned and settup by Ed Umland from Eddie's Chop Shop. Eddie holds multiple land speed records and has built several record setting land speed vehicles including this car as well as the worlds fastest gasoline powered pass at 403 mph. Initial dyno tuning netted 1763 rear wheel hp at only 15 psi of boost. With potential to turn the car up to 40 plus lbs of boost there is a ton of untapped speed still in the car.

Dyno sheets, run logs, efi logs etc are all available with the car.
