Description

1972 Plymouth Road Runner 340 4-speed. One of only 329 made with this engine/transmission combination in 1972. This car has the very desirable Air Grabber hood option, as well as power windows, Strato vent, bucket seats, tachometer, console, dual painted racing mirrors, electronic ignition, dual exhaust, hood pins, fender mounted turn signal indicators, belt moldings, power disk brakes, and the very rare coolant recovery option. All of those options were on the car when it was made, and are listed on the original fender tag.

This car has been repainted once in its original Gold Metallic color. The only minor rust repair ever done to this car was at the very bottom of the quarter panels behind the rear wheels, all the panels on the car are original to the car. The floors, frame, trunk floor, and all the other panels were never rusty and are in excellent condition. This car has only 66,720 original miles on it, and I am the 3rd owner. The vin tag, fender tag, radiator support, door sticker, and transmission numbers all match. The engine is not the original one, but it is a 1971 340.

This car runs a drives very well, and everything works as it should with the following 2 exceptions: there is a aftermarket am/fm/cassette radio in the car which does work, but not very well. I'm not sure if it's the radio or the speakers that are the problem. I have the original AM radio that will come with the car, but I have not tested that so I don't know if it works or not. The tachometer works, but it is not accurate, it reads much higher than the actual engine RPM's.

The 340 engine has been rebuilt and runs great! It does not burn or leak oil. It starts right up when it's cold, and the choke on the Thermoquad carburetor functions as it should. The radiator was done by Glenray Radiator, and has all the correct numbers. It has their maxcool core in it. The car never runs hot, even sitting in traffic. It has a new, reproduction dual exhaust system on it made by Accurate Exhaust. The rear end is a 8 ¾” with 3.55 gears and a sure grip.

There are 2 options on this car that were added, it originally had manual steering, and it has been upgraded to power steering. The car originally came with 14” wheels and whitewall tires, I added the much better looking 15” wheels and G60-15 Polyglas tires. Besides those 2 things the car is just like it was when new.

In the interior the carpet and headliner were replaced, but the rest of the interior is original to the car. The original seat covers, door panels, and dash pad still look great!

This is a very very nice car that was never a rust bucket, and has never been butchered up or abused. Solid original cars like this are very hard to find in this condition. I have had the pleasure of owning this car for the last 4 years. Unfortunately, I have almost no free time, so the car gets very little use. It's time to let it go to someone who can enjoy it more.

The car is located in Connecticut, and is available for personal inspection by anyone that is seriously interested in it. Feel free to email me at mrrandyj@aol.com with any questions.

Connecticut does not issue titles for cars 25 years and older. The car is registered to me, and has been since I purchased it.
