1969 Plymouth GTX 440 HP, 727 HD, console floor shift, N96 air grabber
I have the fender tag and body stamps match, no build sheet
Completely numbers matching 440 HP engine, 727 HD transmission and rear end (8 3/4 open gear).
From what I know, this car started life in Arizona, it was then sold to a guy in Colorado where it spent the bulk of its life.
I bought from a guy who had it stashed in a garage in Chicago to be restored for his son, you all know how that worked out, life got in the way and there I am. I bought it along with a pile of parts with the intention of a full restore. After analyzing the overall condition of the car, I determined the car was too original and had a really great “garage find” look to it. Looks to have been partially repaired/repainted most likely in the 80’s, which definitely shows its age. The car still retains some of it’s original paint which is faded and worn beautifully and looks very cool as is. The tattered vinyl top was removed and painted with a matt black epoxy. I have been restoring Mopars for the last 35 years and feel restoring this car would be a mistake, however that is for the new owner to decide.
The original 440 (numbers matching) was bored .030 over and fitted with Keith Black pistons, cam and all the “good stuff” according to the second owner. It runs very very strong. He claimed to have spent over $6000.00 on the rebuild some years ago???
Once I got it home after years of sitting, it fired right up after (fresh plugs, gas, oil change) new battery.
I put all the trim back on the car which was removed by the previous owner. Replaced all the brake hydraulic, linings and hardware. Flushed all fluids and freshened up the interior with new seat foam and covers, door panels and carpet.
This car runs and drives beautifully, I have enjoyed it as it is for the last three years, It naturally gets a lot of attention, and in my mind, is perfect as is.
So what it needs as far as restoring it perfectly??
Will need to be stripped, lower quarter patch panels, (wont need full quarters) some small patches elsewhere (lower corners of the rear glass), primed blocked and painted. The car is a straight and very solid desert car. No frame or floor issues, minor rust in the trunk pan, may not need to be replaced, could be fixed. All floor pans are solid, surface rust on drivers floor.. Interior would need a dash pad, tach not working, wiper motor, radio not working, heater core not hooked up, a headliner, which is still the original. The lower body trim mounting holes were filled in somewhere along the way, so the lower trim is not correct (currently adhesive type) I have all new lower trim and clips, and window whiskers available with buy it now price.
.
So in summary, this is either one of the coolest original looking “driver” quality B-bodies out there or an amazing restoration candidate with a lot of the most costly items done. That being said, understand the car should be considered a driving "project" not a restored vehicle. Restored, this car would bring over 60K, so there is lots of meat on the bone here.
Drive it, show it, and enjoy it or invest a little and get back a lot!
Like everyone else, I have too many cars and am looking to get some space back. Text Mike 630-999-three one one four, for additional information. .
