1973 Plymouth Scamp (Valiant)

Description

I have for sale atrue all-American classic automobile for a veryreasonable price. For your consideration is a genuine 1973 Plymouth Scamp in virtually stock condition. She even has the original AM radio! For those thatmay not know, the Scamp was the two-door hardtopversion of a Valiant in this model year - the equivalent of the Dodge Dart Swinger. This Scamp has the legendary 225cubic inch slant six engine with a Holley Model 1920 one-barrel carburetor. This great engine is paired to a Torqueflite automatic transmission that shifts flawlessly. This Scamp is equipped with factory air conditioning that is not currently functioning, but the system is complete. This Scamp's fuel gauge does not function. Aside from these two issues, this Scamp is in great condition and functions well as a daily driver. The exact mileage as of the date of this listing shows 84,403, but I rounded this up to 85,000 as this car is currently driven several times a week. This Scamp has been in Nevada formany years and as aresult of the hot and dry desert climate, she has been spared the ravages of rust and decayexperienced by vehicles found in the east.
I purchased this Scamp about 18 months ago from my neighbor, in whose yard she had sat for several years unused. In thepast year, the following work has been done:-New Paint/Bodywork: This Scamp received a new, top-notch paint job in the fall of 2015, with the body being painted in the stock factory color (MOPARRallyRed) per the build plate. The roof's vinyl was removed, sanded to bare metal, primed and painted in a lovely shade of white to maintain the two-tone appearance. Anysigns of body rust were removed, including asmall spot near the passenger side rear wheel where new steel was welded in. Also, the rear window was removed and all traces of rust removed. Ihave plenty of photos of her in the body shop - before and after.
-New Tires: This Scamp now sits on four genuine Uniroyal Tiger Paw radial tires that provide exceptional performance and have less than 250 miles on them.-NewShock Absorbers: Four new KYB shocks provide a comfortable ride and remarkable handling characteristics.-New Brakes: On all four wheels, newdrums, shoes, cylinders andsprings were installed; new flexible brake lines were installed in the front.-New Alternator, Ignition Coil, Belts and Hoses: All these items were changes for preventative maintenance purposes.-Theautomatic transmission was just serviced, with a new filter, pan gasket and fluid.
This Scamp got a complete engine tune up and cooling system flush last summer and she passed the Nevadasmog check just fine a few weeks ago. The smog certificate is good until October, so if you're registering this Scamp in Nevada you are good to go. She iscurrently registered and is driven weekly. The interior is inoriginal condition and shows signs ofbeing in the hot Nevada sun. The head rests are a bitdiscolored and the dash has some cracks. There are some scrapes on the interior cardboard sides - see photos. The simulated woodgrain finish on the dash is missing a few spots, and the glass is a bit cloudy.
Plymouths were great vehicles; cars made for working-class Americans who valued reliability, simplicity and quality for their hard-earned dollars. This car gets frequent compliments and the occasionalthumbs-down from young hipsters riding high-wheel bicycles, offended by its carbon footprint, lack of hybrid technology and side curtain airbags.
The next owner of this Scamp should plan to do some maintenance in the near future. The valves need to be adjusted (a reprint factory shop manual is included in the sale; in addition, there are many videos online on how to do this). The carburetor should be rebuilt (a NAPArebuild kit is included); it works fine as is (passes smog), but this is one task I did not get to and rebuilding the carburetorwould improve performance and fuel efficiency.
