In 1959, a new Pontiac was born. The new Pontiacs presented a redesigned image that was youthful, sporty and now reached a full spectrum of new car buyers. The new models were referred to as “Wide Track” meaning they were full size cars that were low and wide. They were powered by a variety of engines and the new cars outran the majority of their competitors in both sales and racing. For the 1960 model year, Pontiac offered the Catalina, Ventura and Bonneville models. The Ventura was a custom trim model that was only offered in two body styles-a two door sedan and a four-door, hardtop sedan called the Vista Hardtop.
This 1960 Pontiac Ventura Vista Hardtop is one of 28,700 built and carried a base price of 3,047.00. This example is powered by its original, 389 cubic inch V-8 engine with the factory accessory, four-barrel carburetor-a combination that produces 315 horsepower. It is well equipped with the four-speed, Hydramatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, power windows, tinted glass, two-speed windshield wipers with washers, factory AM radio, spinner hubcaps and dual exhausts.
Since being restored in 2015, this Pontiac has been regularly serviced and maintained. It has been used sparingly, and, today, is in excellent, overall condition.
The body panels are extremely straight and solid. All four doors fit the body with even gaps and margins, as does the trunk and rear deck lid. The body lines and contours are crisp and clear. Looking down the sides of this long and impressive sedan, one notices that the body panels are free of waves and distortion. This is really a straight and honest car.
The exterior maroon paint is in excellent condition and shows only the most minimal amounts of wear. The gloss is consistent throughout and there is no evidence of underlying body issues. The chrome and stainless trim are excellent as well.
On the inside, the matching, tri-toned, interior is extremely clean and presents well. The seats, door panels, carpets, headliner, etc. show no major signs of damage or wear. The dashboard is clean and all of the gauges have clear faces. The glass is clean and clear and the window channels are in very good condition as well.
The engine bay is very original and extremely clean. It shows the expected signs of use but is generally very tidy. Looking underneath, the chassis and drivetrain components are very clean and original as well. Upon close examination, you can tell that this was always a good car and was never subject to abuse or damage.
Overall, this is a very clean example of a 1960 Pontiac Vista Hardtop Sedan. It is a very distinctive and appealing body style. The colors and options make this particular example very attractive and desirable. It really looks good from all angles and is ready to be shown or driven with confidence.
