I will most likely regret this one day, but up for auction is my original 1968 GTO Convertible. I have several cars and cannot store them all, so will need to let a couple go. Let me start by saying this car is a true cream puff. You just don't find many GTO's like this any more - matching number, fully documented and never been apart. The engine appears to have never been out of the car and it runs and drives like it. Runs and drives fantastic. Everything works, including the clock and key warning buzzer!

John DeLorean's most notable contribution to Pontiac was the Pontiac GTO (Gran Turismo Omologato), and this is one fine example. This is a true GTO convertible, still hs its original born-with YS 400 cid 350hp engine. Rare car indeed as only 9,980 convertible GTO's were produced in 1968 (out of 87,684 total production). The car is very original and floats down the road, just like it did in 1968. I see so many restored cars once apart and put back just don't ride right, either too stiff or rattles, shimmy's, etc. This car's ride feels great- tight and comfortable, true cream puff. It has had one repaint - was repainted under my ownership in its original color of Cameo White (the paint was done in the original color that was coded to the car from the factory). The black interior and top are completely original and in great shape. The vinyl on original cars to me is superior to many of the reproduction products out there. The seats are very comfortable. I believe the interior carpet is even original.

This GTO has zero rust and I believe was a two-owner car, most likely garaged in the winters and used as a summer or weekend car. It was seldom driven over the years with only 96k original miles. At some point it made its way to Florida, which is where I found the car in 2013.

This GTO Convertible is loaded with original rare options from the factory, such as:

  • Endura Bumper
  • Hideaway headlights
  • Factory air conditioning
  • Power top
  • Power steering
  • Power disc brakes
  • Hurst his/hers shifter (not a repro)
  • Hood tachometer
  • Rally wheels
  • Tilt steering wheel
  • Remote trunk release
  • Remote side mirror
  • Reclining passenger seat
  • Trunk light
  • Trunk mat (not a repro)

The is an unmolested car. I believe that all the body panels are original to the car, as the factory stampings are still visible on the rear quarter panels (in the gutters), underside of trunk lid and I found a stamp on one front fender too.

The GTO is fully documented and comes with the original dealer selling invoice from Triangle Pontiac, original warranty booklet, original broadcast copy and PHS documentation. Also, the original VIN number stamp is on the engine block (see the photos for pictures of stampings, etc). There are many 'clones' and 'tribute' cars out there, but few true original AND documented cars for sale. Don't be fooled by re-stamped engines, fake cowl tags, protecto plates, reproduction window stickers and other fake documentation. It just makes sense as an investment to buy a car that will hold its value - a true survivor matching car with documentation.

The car idles, runs and drives great. This is the most reliable car of any of my cars. You could drive this car anywhere without issues. Never gets hot even in standing traffic. Drives straight down the freeway with no pulling or wandering. Engine idles smooth and steady (see the videos of the engine running in this auction) with no smoke or knocks, weird noises, etc. Transmission shifts smoothly and operates perfectly. It has factory air conditioning, power steering, disc brakes and dual exhaust. The exhaust note is nice, not too loud but has a low rumble and amazingly quiet at highway speeds. The engine is the original YS 400ci, which was rated at 350hp from the factory. All the electricals work- horn, lights, blinkers, brake lights, interior lights, even the original clock works. In the trunk is the original full spare wheel/tire and original jacking equipment - the trunk even has original splatter paint inside. When I bought the car in 2013, the owner told me that the a/c does need a POA valve and in 4 years of ownership I have not needed to use it.

This car is in great survivor original condition. One thing not original is the re-paint that was done, but turned out great. The car looks amazing - perfect for Sunday drives and local shows. It gets a ton of looks going down the road and I receive many compliments on this car. I have been asked to have the car filmed in a music video (but declined). I have received numerous trophies and plaques at car shows with this car, more than any of my other cars. With the purchase will be included the documents mentioned above as well as the original 1968 owners manuals, accessories manuals and convertible top operation manual that came with the car. I even have an extra set of original 1968 dealer issued keys for the car.

(I have included many photos of the car, please wait for all the pictures to load....see the decoding information below with photos of engine stampings, etc. as well as videos of the car)

Please read my feedback, it speaks for itself. The factory put these cars together well, I see a lot of restored stuff that does not go back too well. I have the car priced with a low reserve....this car is ready to drive and show now.

Feel free to email me with any questions. This is a very rare car, very low production, especially in this condition. There is no doubt that this car will appreciate in value over the next several years and is better than money sitting in your bank account, since you can enjoy the car while it appreciates (should appreciate faster than the interest from the loan for that matter). This is a great example of an original GTO. It is seldom one finds a car like this and it is getting harder to find cars in this kind of original condition with this kind of documentation.....so bid early, don't miss out!

A lot of my auctions end early, so if you have a price in mind, please call me!
