Description

Provinance:

This 1972 Pontiac Trans Am survivor is very rare due to the factory shut-down in April of 1972. Manufacture date is January of 1972 out of the Norwood, Ohio, plant and my uncle purchased the vehicle in February off the showroom floor at Quality Pontiac in Albuquerque, NM. He is unable to drive it anymore and it needs to be with someone who appreciates this classic muscle car (which has lived its whole life in New Mexico). We have the original title issued April 3, 1972. Pontiac produced 1286 Trans Ams in 1972 and only 458 with the Muncie 4 speed manual transmission. See the photo of factory specs. for more information.

Condition:

Original parts and matching numbers are here. Starts easily, runs strong and solid. This car has not been restored. Some suspension parts were changed out in the 90’s but all original parts were kept.Front grill guard was repainted in the 70’s due to paint chips from road debris. Stored in a climate controlled shop since 1976.Driver’s seat has sun damage where it is near the window (adhesive residue from old duck tape repair makes it worse). Some cracks in the dash are also from sun. There has been touch-up work done around the back window where a metal sun shade was once attached. Some paint repair also around the license plate where gas nozzles chipped. We also have the original window cranks but one is missing the knob. There is a dimple on the passenger side rear fender and a small paint chip on the driver's side rear fender. I have included pictures to show these imperfections. Also exhaust manifolds were replaced recently due to theft of originals. The condition of this car is remarkable and it is so rare that I cannot find another 1972 comparable.

Purchase includes parts never installed: four new "PMD" wheel ornaments still in boxes, a new hood to cowl seal, roof rail w/strip and new bird decal for front grill surround plus a box of assorted seals, etc. I have photos of all these if you need to see them.

Air conditioner is not listed on the spec sheet from factory, so it must have been done after purchase. Found lots of paperwork for this vehicle. Included are several items that may interest a purchaser.

Factory spec sheet – may actually be the original window sticker (see photo)

Original receipt for purchase from Quality Pontiac dated 7 Feb. 1972

Carburetor service procedures for both Rochester Quadrajet and Holley

Diagrams showing evidence of replacement of front plastic valence panel

Found original in the loft; it shows damage from hitting a parking curb

Specs for replacing upper control arms – not sure if he ever did it

Receipts for:

purchase of idler arms, mufflers, tail pipes and exhaust pipes in 1981

Spoiler purchased in 1974 from Quality Pontiac

Windshield replacement in 1976

tires, brakes, batteries

Paint and install of front lower panel, right rear fender guard, left rear fin, right and left drip rails and install decals in 1980. So much to my surprise paint is not really all original.
