1989 Firebird Trans am Knight Rider Replica KITT
Description
Update....To answer some questions this is a running driving Kitt car. It passed emissions, it’s insured, and registered. It doesn’t leak any fluids. The speedo is still attached for the odometer reader to be accurate. There’s no major rust holes that I am aware of. The pics I took show the bubbling under each door. The jams are near perfect. As pictured underneath the car is pretty clean in my opinion. Rob Louisell installed the Jupiter electronics back in 2005. I’m not an electronic expert. There’s a computer interface and plenty of expansion spots for your imagination.
Up for sale is my 1989 Firebird converted to a Trans Am Knight Rider replica in 2005. This is a complete season 1-2 conversion. I have owned this car for almost a year now. This car was an original Connecticut car. I had it shipped out and have done a bunch of upgrades since. Was never planning on selling but financial reasons force sale. A fun car, and gets attention everywhere. Shows nice even with its flaws.
ExteriorThis car conversion was completely done in 2005. Brand new GM hood, and Trans am fenders. Rob Louisell front upgraded front nose with blackouts the nose has a few chips and stress cracks but not through. With a chip in the drivers blackout. Headlight doors have been rebuilt within the last 6 months and work great. Lower fog lights are there but don't seem to be hooked up. Brennon high powered light bar with KITT sound(manual or remote). Rear Black out is also attached. Paint shines up real nice but you can definitely see flaws and scratches. The bad...There are 3 spots where moisture has gotten under each door and on the drivers rear fender (as pictured). I have looked under the car, I have not seen any rust holes but there is surface rust, and a nicely done repair patch under the drivers passenger floor. Car was stored in a trailer the last 10 years and only pulled out for car shows. T-top area is really clean with only a minor dime sized rust spot. Very clean car for an east coast car.
InteriorThe interior was completely re-covered and stuffed in 2005. All interior is in really good shape with the exception of a small 1" hole in the drivers rear speaker cover. The Knight rider dash is from Jupiter and is in good working order. The dash does have some stress cracks but not cracked through. The dash lights up, talks in AUX mode on the stereo with pre-programmed phrases through the push buttons. The 2-TV's currently are not hooked up. I'm including 2 new LED TV's with cameras that need to be installed. Window go up and down as they should. The locking T-tops have new lock cylinders and keys. I do not have a manual or knowledge of all the buttons that function so there will be a little bit of testing to see what everything does for the buyer. For example, the green question mark pops the trunk. This conversion is complete with upper and lower consoles that light up and work. The gull wing steering wheel horn button recently stopped working. New turn signal bar.
DrivetrainMotor is a rebuilt 305V8 that runs good. Sorry not sure how many miles on the rebuild but its clean and does not smoke. Passed AZ emissions. It runs like 305 V8 TBI cars (not fast), The trans shifts hard when cold but then smoothes out when warm. Not sure how many miles on the trans since it was rebuilt. In the last year the TBI has been rebuilt with new injectors, I feel like it would run better with a TBI tune, or timing adjustment. Also already done new delco plugs, accel wires, coil, cap, serpentine belt, tensioner, new Delco battery. New K & N air filter, oil change. New front brakes, rotors, and pads. New Fuel filter and sending unit, and pump and tank was cleaned. Previous owner did cut out the top out of the fuel tank area, but they have new sheet metal laid down. The electric fan is currently on a switch I recommend putting it on a relay. The A/C components are all there however the A/C is not hooked up, all vents are blocked by the dash anyway.
14" Knight Rider Wheels with REAL bowling ball hubcaps backed by matching BF Goodrich tires with lots of tread left.
This is a fun drive-able car but is not perfect. Grabs attention everywhere you drive him. I have tried to be as exact as possible on everything with this car. There are no warranties expressed or implied. Car is located in Tucson, AZ if you would like to see the vehicle let me know. Note: driving this vehicle at night can be a bit tricky due to the bright dash reflecting off the windshield.
