Introduced in 1970, the second generation Firebird was only available as a fastback coupe. Designed in tandem with the Chevrolet Camaro, the Firebird was a popular halo car for the Pontiac range. Government regulations started killing muscle cars in the 1970's left and right. However, Pontiac kept producing the Firebird Trans-am at the brink of what was allowed (with perhaps some fudging of some horsepower numbers).
