Description
1966 Pontiac GTO
fuel:gas
title status:clean
transmission:automatic
Car doesn't run, needs full restoration. Last on the road in 1986.
This is a Fremont built real 242 GTO. Has it's original CA spec 389 engine with all its CA smog equipment...correct code powerglide trans that was probably a dealer replacement and original WF code 3.23 geared rearend that a posi was put in. Has tach and gauges...console and power steering too. Car was completely disassembled by a prior owner and body and frame were media blasted. I have mocked the car together to make it easier to deal with and so bidders can see what is here. Some stuff is missing...but most important things are here. All body panels are good and can be reused. Hood will probably need replacing. No rust in the floors or trunk! Just a few pinholes and small holes that'll need welding up in passenger floor area. Will need a little patch panel here or there on the rear part of the body. Window channels are amazingly rust free. Just a couple small holes in the lower section of front window area...and smaller than a dime sized hole on the lower left of rear window. Not really in the channel where the window sits...just to the left of it. Really good in the window channels compared many GM muscle cars. Both rear quarters have a 2 x 3 1/2" patch or so above the taillights... have no idea why. Almost looks like there was a bolt on spoiler or something....who knows. Itll need redoing. There are some missing parts...off the top of my head..but not a complete list...interior heater box and controls, rocker panel trim, door outer trim on drivers side, maybe a headliner bow or two. There will be some missing parts as part of the nature of a car like this...that's been taken apart and mocked together. New body mount bushings and hardware. There will be missing hardware and smaller items. Dont have a windshield wiper motor. A few pinholes that'll need welding on the sail panel right behind the rear side window on drivers side. Have the back window...and rear side windows. The door windows are still in the doors. Rear side windows, regulators and tracks are in the trunk. Have all front and rear window stainless trim. Needs a windshield.
Sheetmetal looks good and usable...front fenders look like they've been on the car forever...but might not be GTO fenders so it might need some excess holes filled and proper trim holes drilled. Usable and straight though. Engine turns by hand and I doubt it's ever been rebuilt...previous owner pulled oil pan to inspect and only a couple bolts hold it on now. Dont have a torque converter for the car and the flexplate is in the trunk with the other parts....keep in mind the car is mocked up for easy transport. Will need fuel and brake lines..they were discarded. At this point being over 50 years old...might have been prudent to replace them anyway. No exhaust system other than manifolds..no driveshaft. What I have in the way of wiring is in the trunk. Comes with new weather strips in packages.
Very original car. Originally Martinique Bronze...which is gold...with a gold interior. That must have been a beautiful combination when new. Car needs a general restoration. Have a clean CA title in my name. Has a little area of rude body work behind the passenger door..it needs redoing.Haven't gotten a PHS report on the car...am assuming engine and rear end are original to the car. Trim tag reads as follows...assembled 06A, trim 221, paint TT...body 66-24217. Engine block casting is late May of '66, same as rearend center section. Pretty sure its the original stuff to this car...just saying I didnt get the PHS report.
A car like this is impossible to describe fully here...though I tried...please ask questions..I'd love to sell it locally...but can help with a transporter to facilitate pickup.
Clean title in my name on non operational status with the DMV. Only have one black plate...the one shown on the back of the car is this cars original plate. Have an old registration from the 80s showing them on this car....but only have 1 plate. ASK QUESTIONS...send me your number if you have a few questions and I'll call you. Much easier than a handful of emails..
Full payment is to be in my hands within 3 days of auction end...unless other arrangements are made with my approval. Wiring into my bank, cashiers checks or money orders accepted....and good old cash if you'll be picking it up in person. Though Ebay places Paypal and credit card images for payment...its their generic stuff and doesnt pertain to this listing. Your winning bid doesn't give you the right to come and inspect the car. Rather its the price you are willing to pay based on the pictures and info provided. Serious bidders only!! Car rolls and steers just fine...no brakes.
