Description

You are bidding on a low-mileage 1993 Pontiac Grand Am SE coupe. This car was purchased new by my mother in Wisconsin just before she retired. It was stored (inside) and maintained, but driven no more than a few times a year between 1995 and 2015, so the odometer reading of 45,299 IS actual miles. We acquired the car from my Mom in 2016, moved it to Florida, and have been using it as a second car ever since. The engine and drive train are fine, and it runs great!
As you can see from the pictures it's visually in beautiful shape; both exterior and interior. It IS however; a 26-year old car from "up North", and has some issues. Although it was undercoated when new, a look underneath will show substantial rust across the whole underbody. A more serious "age-related" issue has popped up since last December- the plastic shroud running from the back of the hood up over the bottom of the windshield. It has warped considerably from sun exposure, leaving an opening that allows water to seep in during a heavy rain. It doesn't affect anything behind the dashboard or in the front seat at all, but pools under the carpeting in the passenger-side back seat. We have researched replacement shrouds online, and found them available; but really do not have the facilities/time/skill to replace it ourselves, so we haven't done it. If the car was kept in a garage, this wouldn't be an issue; if not it can simply be protected with a car cover, which is what we do on rainy days. A less-serious, but more immediate maintenance issue came up last week; it suddenly developed a leak in the power steering system, and all the power steering fluid leaked out when we were about 2 miles from home.
By the time we got into our driveway, all power steering function was gone. It's definitely not easy to drive with the power steering system dry, the winning bidder would have to be prepared to either deal with that or arrange (and pay) to have the car towed or flatbedded home. You might try pouring more fluid into the system, but I don't know how far you'd get before it all leaks out again. We're not interested in putting the money into fixing these issues, so the buyer must understand they are purchasing the car "as-is", with these issues.
Beyond that, the only flaws on the car exterior is a thin crack through the "G" in the words "Pontiac Grand Am" on the plastic nameplate across the back of the trunk lid, and a 1 & 1/2" piece of the plastic molding around the headlight on the passenger side, but the light itself is still be water-tight. As far as the interior goes, it's in great shape, too--the only exception being the vinyl arm rests on both doors- the glue seal on them has started to release, and they are "rolling inward" slightly at the point, away from the fabric inside door wall. Other than those aspects, the car is great, and everything works on it just fine. It would involve some expense to deal with the leaks (in both the power steering system and the shroud), but for someone with the ability to DYI these things, you could end up with a GREAT vintage car, that could really be something of a showpiece. Finding a car of this vintage in this kind of shape is really rare. We have the opportunity to acquire another late-model, low-miles car to replace it, but we have to get this Grand Am gone before we have room to take delivery, so please take it off of our hands!
