1994 Pontiac Firebird Formula
A beloved symbol of 1970s car culture. An icon of disco era design. A redneck's red-letter regalia. It's gaudy. Garish. Tacky. Even vulgar. And we love it. This is the story of Pontiac's Screaming Chicken, the largest and most recognizable decal in automotive history. Lost to time is the name of the man that first referred to the graphic as a "Screaming Chicken." The nickname came quickly. By the late 1970s, even Car and Driver was using the label. No doubt derogatory, over time the epithet has become one of endearment, although the brand's hardest purists still hate it. That bunch landed on "hood bird" four decades ago and refuse to budge. Others go with "Rising Phoenix" or simply "Firebird." The ignorant usually refer to the massive flaming fowl as an Eagle or a Hawk.
This rounded off version of the iconic Firebird right out of 1994 remains in very nice condition even with 126,549 miles.
Exterior
Bright Red base coat and clear coat adorn the straight panels of this car. Virtually no chrome and all composite bumpers and front and rear parts come together to form this aerodynamic and slightly lighter car than the Trans Am version. The lines of this car blend seamlessly to form the final shape, all smooth and aerodynamic. All red. A few faults throughout in the form of dents, crazing, scratches and some earlier rough repairs on the wheel wells. The composite bumpers are showing some scratches and slight bubbling deterioration.
Interior
Gray cloth makes up the dual buckets in front and the 2+2 seats in the rear. The remainder of the interior keeps with the gray only a little darker for the clean dash and pristine carpeting. The shaved off straight lines and now curves abound in this nice interior.
Drivetrain
A 350ci LT1 V8 which the consigner states puts out 330hp is under the hood. This sits in a super clean and shiny environment with little to no corrosion. This mill is fuel injected and has a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission and a 10-bolt 2.73 rear.
Undercarriage
Lots of patina, some surface rust, and road dirt, but all in working condition. Independent coil spring suspension for the front, and torque arm for the rear. Power disc brakes are all around.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, smooth driver and some nice power. Overall a good used car.
Right out of 1994, this red red bird is ready to have its key turned and driven away for more fun. Look at it as your screaming chicken less Formula Firebird lighting the tires up.
