PONTIAC CATALINA
4 DOOR SEDAN
SUPER STRAIGHT CLASSIC
Hello your looking at a very straight original 1960 Pontiac Catalina Classic 4 Door Sedan.
This car has been in storage since 1980's in dry Colorado and is now out and fresh'end up to get back on the road again. Selling this for a good friend with clear title. Life has been in California, Nevada, Colorado. A very solid, straight, overall original '60 Catalina. The car was repainted in the early 80's and was repainted blue over the rare original dark orchid color. The jams were not done in the doors but the hood and trunk jams were painted. I would have much rather seen it in the beautiful original color, but the old owner wanted a change after many years. There was some minor repairs as far as we can investigate from looking closely at the entire body. Some small rust-outs in the lower front fenders, very isolated, a2"x3" inch area. The metal on the doors, trunk seams and lower & inner rockers are all solid, the main floors are all solid and some surface rust was addressedon the top of the trunk floor and then recoated with rust preventer sealer, solid floor. Note: The drivers side lower rear floor pan was reinforced with a soild new metal panover the top of the original pan at some point to keep pattern original from below, floor is very strong. All floors are original and solid and strong along with all body mounts and braces. Please See photos of underside.
OVERALL: The car runs strong with the 389 big block 2 barrel with tag, starts very easy, no leaking, or puddles after sitting. Fluids have been changed, tune up new spark plugs, filters. All electrical is good, dash is great, lenses and gauges all work. NOTE: The speedo inner cable needs to be purchased and re-inserted, as the original inner cable snapped after sitting in storage. The main cable housing is in place, but the center cable needs to be reinserted to make the speedo work again, a easy fix. The mileage is correct until storage in late 80's and not many miles since being removed from storage, so miles should be accurate as it is now showing.
SEALS: All fuzzy window stuff is great no rattles and the weather door, trunk seals are very nice originals and soft. The doors all open and close and lock great. All windows operate and are working great, including vents. All Original factory Glass is clear and nice shapeand Eze eye glass stamped coded, except the front windshield was cracked in center as a garage door shaft scraped the glass there putting pressure to cause a crack, bummer. New is $395. The hood and trunk close and open with ease and are tight. A very solid car and it shows.
PAINT: The repaint was done in the early eighties and has held up very well, the top surface was just rebuffed and addressed and shows some very minor sand scratches that could be taken out with another compound buf, or 1500 grit wet sand and buff. The paint is very shinny and no side dings or dents to speak of. There are some imperfections in the top surface showing sinking of a small sanded area but very hard to photograph. The paint is a 6.5 - 7 out of 10 I would estimate, due to the straightness of the body helps it rate much higher. Note: Some small buffing burn marks in surface areas. Looks local show quality now. Not stop how quality to the picky perfectionist in any way, just to be clear in the overall description!
MECHANICALLY: 389 V8 Engine runs starts easy, no leaks, Tranny shifts good but is a all original drive train with a now showing 60,200 miles which is believed to be original and accounted for in a log book. Pedals show minimal wear also. Radio works good after tube warm up. Dome light works good, brake, tail lights, high beam & blinker indicators all work. Tires are all good originals, B.F. Goodrich Bias Ply Wide Whitewalls in correct size and width.
INTERIOR: is all original including the carpet and headliner. The seats are very good and the lower rear seat insert material is splitting, but I found some NOS original insert material if requested to repair this at cost. ?Or you need to recover seats as is now with clear vinyl and hide this while keeping it alloriginal and protect the material from any more splitting. The top of the rear seat vinyl was resewn and the rear shelf was redone also. The cloth headliner has age stains and two cloth repairs, but is original. The carpet and rubber mats are all original also. Door panels are original and the lower 1/3 sections have beenrepaired.
CHROME: Main pot metal Chrome Door handles and bumpersare in super shape. The stainless trim is also overall very nice and straight. The worst part is the rear bumper. The rear bumper guards are dented and the outer driver side lower rear bumper has three dings from a bump also. Rear bumper would need straightened and fix for show but still has nice shine.
Overall this classic 1960 Catalina is very solid, straight and needs driven again to have fun and show in some local car shows, or the local drive-in with the family!
THANK YOU FOR LOOKING!
