Description

Pontiac was the hero of car companies in the late '70s. They were pretty much the lone holdouts still carrying the torch for big power cars by still giving us serious displacement, and this 1978 Trans Am is proof. Still packing the correct W72-option 400 cubic inch V8 that made early Trans Ams so special, and it's wrapped in the all-black package that Burt Reynolds made famous on the big screen. But more than just nostalgic, this coupe has had huge investments inside and out to get you the most comfort, reliability, and V8 power.OK, we know the car used in the movie was a 1977 T/A, but this one nails the look in just about every way that matters. Better still, it's a factory black car, which is always in demand. But keeping it looking this good takes a real investment. That's why $10,000 was spent taking the coupe down to bare metal to make sure the shiny paint earns its Starlight Black name and everyone see your gold screaming bird covering the hood. It has the shaker hood, front air dam, fender vents, and full-length rear spoiler all of this makes for one mean T/A. Open the door and see even more investment in this coupe. Yes, those are Recaro bucket seats. They were only available at the very end of the 2nd gen Firebirds, but this one has had them expertly installed to look like part of the original tan interior. And when you sit down in these sport seats, the first thing you're going to notice is the Hurst performance shifter. After that, everything begins to feel like a very well preserved factory Trans Am. The driver gets a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, and beyond that, the dash is covered in the T/A's hallmark machine-turned aluminum panel. Full instrumentation was standard on Trans Ams, including the large tach and speedo. The full dash feels so authentically original, you get provisions for A/C and it even still have the factory AM/FM/8-track stereo (yes, the Deep Purple cartage does come with the sale, too!)The numbers-matching 400 cubic-inch V8 has an authentic appearance right down to the factory hood shaker that everybody remembers so well. The block is still covered in factory-correct Pontiac Blue paint, and if you look through the receipts, you'll start to see some serious investment in this very tidy motor. In 2003 the engine was rebuilt, and it includes performance upgrades such as hydraulic lifters, Comp Cams valve springs, and a Davis Unified Ignition. This enhanced motor makes great muscle car sounds out of the dual exhaust, and it moves the coupe with authority. You get complete control over this thanks to the highly desireable four-speed manual transmission. And all the power gets to the ground reliably through the rebuilt 10-bolt limited slip rear end with versatile 3.73 gears. This is a great handling sports car with easy driving features such as power steering and front disc brakes. Finishing off this package are the famous Pontiac 15x8 snowflake alloys, painted gold to match the bird on the hood and wearing Goodyear Eagle tires for great all-around modern grip.Documentation includes the factory buildsheet, window sticker, owner's manual, restoration receipts, and restoration photos. It's the beautiful black car that has far more distinction than just Hollywood star power. So for '78 lovers, you'll likely never find one like this again. Call now!!
