Up for auction is a very clean, straight from California 1962 Pontiac Grand Prix with a numbers matching 389 paired with a 4 speed manual trans. We received several documents from the previous owner to go along with this car. They provided us with an original window sticker, original bill of sale, dealer order form and several California registration cards. The comes with the California 62 black plates and had a current registration to the end of 2016. We purchased it in California and shipped it to Illinois. We buffed it and did the brakes. After looking at the car it had old drag racer written all over it. It had the exhaust cut outs on it, velocity cones built in to the core support with the plumbing for the air cleaner, 5 point harnesses, and someone back in the day flared the rear wheel wells by hand to accommodate oversized rubber it had in the back. So we then decided to pay tribute to one of the most famous factory Drag teams of the '60s and lettered it up. No the bumper or fenders are not aluminum but the average guy at the car show won't know if you don't tell him. This is anice solid Cali car. It has original floors and sheet metal. Floors have no patches and no rot. The bottoms of the doors, trunk, and hood are not swollen. The car has been painted in it's life. The paint looks good from 5 feet, it is shiny and bright. When it was painted the jambs were not done and have a dull older looking finish. The paint is not perfect and does have chips and scratches and some are touched up and some are not. The underside of the car is impressive. The floors, frame, rockers are in great shape. There is a light scaling in some spots on the frame and floors. The rockers are solid. The chrome trim, window moldings, tail light extensions are pitting. The front bumper was painted to give an aluminum look. The rear bumper could stand to be rechromed. Inside the car is average. The carpet, seats and headliner are present nicely. The dash pad is wavy. The steering column and metal portion of the dash are chipped and show some wear. The windows operate correctly and the glass has no cracks. Under the hood. There are no signs of cobbling under the hood. The only changes I see are the after market air cleaner. The wires and looms have not been cut up and spliced. The 389ci engine starts right up, and goes right through the gears quickly. In the video I say 3 Speed. Not true. It is a 4 speed. The trunk compartment is clean. It was undercoated. Trunk mat and spare tire cover are worn and easily rip or tear if not careful. If your looking for an attention getter at the summer car shows and on the road this is it. And you can buy it for a tiny fraction of the price that the real ones did at Mecum in Kissimmee this week.
