Description

1984 Porsche 944, 2.5L, 5spd. 87,000 miles.

White - Brown interior. All service up to date.

New Parts recently: front shocks, brakes, rotors, suspension bushings, Rear tires, inner/outer tie rods.

Changed in the last 2.5 years: Both RPM sensors, Spark plugs, fuel filter, fan switch, Rear wheel bearings, thermostat and coolant.

Rebuilt Parts recently: Steering rack and Pump, Clutch Master and Slave cylinders, A/C compressor

Within the last 5 years the TB/water pump and rollers were replaced. The head was re-worked with new valve stems and seals. I have records on all of this. No oil leaks.

The Good:

This car handles like its on rails - it is an absolute blast to drive. It looks good and always gets comments. I have driven it every-other day for the past 2.5 years with it never leaving me stranded except for when the RPM sensor went bad(Replaced). It starts every time - the engine sounds great, doesn't use oil and never overheats. I would drive this car anywhere really. The interior is in good shape and smells good - carpets are clean with no stains. It has a period correct MOMO prototipo wheel ($300), a new sony stereo with Bluetooth ($250) and it sports the Fuchs wheels on the outside. The windshield is original but unscratched and almost perfect. All the lights, wipers, instruments, fan controls, mirrors, windows, cooling fans and horn work fine. Including the pop up headlights and windshield washer. The car has no rear muffler so it is a little loud - a $50 rear muffler would fix that if you like - I think it sounds great.

The not so Good:

The car is 33 years old so it is not perfect by any account. There are some small dents/chips in the paint but it looks great at 20 ft. It has a salvaged title - the story I was told was that the previous owner had the car in his garage when a large shelf fell on the rear of the car - shattering the back glass and damaging the Left rear fender. This rings true with me because I have been all over this car and all of the paint seems original minus that one fender, plus there are no signs of any panel replacement or body work. There are a couple of items that do not work: The A/C needs an evaporator (I rebuilt the compressor to find leaks in the evap - it will hold a charge for a month or so) The cruise control doesn't work, the auto antenna doesn't work (the antenna works just not the motor to raise/lower it) The odometer is about 10k miles off. I had to rebuild the odometer but I think I can show how much time passed when it wasn't working - other than that discrepancy I have no reason to believe the mileage is inaccurate. The front tires were out of alignment prior to replacing the tie-rods so they are worn some on the inside and cupped so they sometimes vibrate a little at speed. The dash has common cracks in it and the rear spoiler needs re-gel coated. There is some very small surface rust on the rockers near the rear wheels - but not bad at all. I have probably made the car out to be worse than it really is - I just want to be up front so you know what you are buying!
