Description

Now being offered for sale is a 1968 Porsche 911S Targa Vin#11850389. The current original mileage is 71058 Km. This car is one of only 442 911S Targas produced in 1968. Porsche did not export the 911S to the US due to smog requirements so production was limited. That makes this car a very rare and a great addition to any collection. The car is “numbers matching” per the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity (COA) issued by Porsche Cars of North America. The current owner is the 3rd owner and has had the car since 1996. The car has undergone a complete restoration over the last 3 years and is in excellent condition both inside and out. The restoration goal was to maintain as much originality as possible so as to maintain its 1968 heritage.

The exterior was completely stripped to metal and repainted in its original rare color of metallic dark green #62109. It was professionally painted using PPG waterborne 2 stage paint. New rubber was installed during reassembly. The front trunk, engine bay and wheel wells were coated with rust inhibitor black paint. The targa top was reupholstered using the original correct smooth material. It has the original headlights and rear taillights that are in very good condition. The car has the original rear window that has the defrost wires running front to back in the center part of the window. This version was only used in 1968 when they converted from the soft window to the hard window. The car also has a very rare rear stainless steel apron that was only used on euro cars.

The engine was completely rebuilt by RennTech of Auburn, Calif. The following was accomplished. The case was sent out to Ollie’s for reconditioning. The original cylinders were nickasiled and rebored at 80 mm. The original “S” pistons were cleaned and new rings were installed. New bearings and seals were installed. The heads were machined and new valves and seals were installed. The original weber carbs were reconditioned by Partsklassik. The exhaust system was ceramic coated by Advanced Performance Coatings and all the tin and air cleaners were powder coated. The transmission was rebuilt and the 1st and 2nd gear synros were replaced. A new clutch kit was installed and all shifter bushings were replaced.

The car has original 5.5 X 15 fuchs with new Michelin MXV4 tires, including the spare. The ride height has been set to Euro specs. The brake system was reconditioned which included rebuilt calipers, new pads and new lines. The ignition, starter and alternator were also rebuilt.

The interior had the front seats reupholstered with top grain soft leather. The rear seats and rear shelf were also reupholstered. The car has the original door panels and pockets which are in excellent condition.A brand new dash from Aase Sales was installed. The original euro gauges were reconditioned by Commercial Speedometer Service Inc. and work like new. New Loyd Luxe floor mats have been installed. A new Alpine stereo system has been installed and sounds great. The car also comes with the original radio. It has the original Webasto gas heater.

The car comes with the original owner’s manual, jack, Porsche COA and paperwork dating back to the 1970’s which includes records for the recent restoration. The sale will also include a flash drive with pictures detailing the restoration. The car runs and drives just like you would expect a 911S to run. This is a very original example of a rare 1968 911S Targa for the discerning collector, investor or enthusiast.
