Description

Presented byGarage9.com, compare the condition of this remarkable Porsche 928GTS from the great city of Vancouver vs others offered at over$100K.
Original Porsche Vancouver/MCL car. Less than 30 sold in Canada. Two owner with impeccable history & local provenance. Fully original paint with rare black metallic. This is a super durable & mirror smooth clear coat over gold metal-flake base.
Original engine and all other major parts. Even the windscreen is original. Carproof provided, including detailed insurance claim history. No accidents or other major work. Summer driven only, garage kept - just to keep the interior and paint out of the weather. This is the automatic transmission version.
Record of service is available, with recent cam belt and pump service @ 100K miles. All fluids/filters done. Electrics/electronics/systems work as they should, with no trouble lights or messages. Recent brake pad change. Past service includes expected maintenance such as bulbs, rotors, spark plugs, engine mounts (OEM), steering rack and rebuilt original rack, in sealed plastic wrap, may be purchased with sale. Torque tube was replaced at ~60K miles by 1st owner. Flex plate connector regularly inspected and has not shown any creep/movement.
Engine has not been taken apart other than for Cam belt & waterpump service & front seals. (i.e. it has the original oil pan & valve cover gaskets, intake, alternator, PS pump etc). Cool weather up in B.C. so rubber, hoses stay in good condition. As you can see the engine intake manifold is in original condition. Most 928s throughout the US have had the finish cooked & peeled off due the extreme heat! Pure unchlorinated water keeps the cooling system very clean, reducing corrosion with no particulates. R 134a A/C works great never been touched as well.
Stock original interior with stock Porsche CD-2 Audio/amp. Comes with 18" Porsche turbo hollow-spokes wheels as well as original 17" Porsche Cup wheels. Tire pressure monitoring works great with the original wheels. Has sport rear (red) shocks for more responsive handling. Original rear Boge shocks/springs are included.
Sure to appreciate further due to high quality build, exceptionalcollectability, demand forand rarity of the GTS series.
Before making offers to purchase:Please check into shipping and importation costs (e.g. 2.5% duty) and what's required on your end. It is an inconvenience & time delay off market to then resolve a non-payment case and then relist.
General InformationA word about the GTS series: I drove this GTS for a week with an "in-law" member of the Porsche family when he was visiting Vancouver on business. Back in Europe, he had been given a prototype GTS by Hans Michel Piech to drive for about a year, one that was used for in-field testing. Which leads me to the engine changes made on the GTS. Porsche altered the piston design and breathing on the 92-95 engine. An undesirable result of that was some production GTS's were consuming lots of oil, and some engines were replaced under warranty. So when buying a GTS, ask about its oil consumption. This particular one is good. Another GTS quirk is you have to run the highest octane fuel to prevent pinging, esp in the summer using Chevron 94. Of course with all 928's the torque tube history is good to know, as excess load may be placed on the engine thrust bearing if the flex plate connection has slipped out. I have regularly checked this driveshaft for creep and there is none. Also driving habits (no rapid starts etc.) will prevent the driveshaft from winding up and pulling back on the flex plate connection.
About mileage. From 1989 onward, Porsche 928's are equipped with a digital dash. This GTS is original true mileage, and I would not characterize that as high mileage either. 5000 miles per year is hardly breaking a sweat. It really makes me wonder exactly what these "low miles" cars have been doing? Rotting in a garage? In some cases the condition is not reflective of the odometer either. In any case, Porsches are not Chevy Cobalts. They can easily handle 5-10K a year of highway driving, in fact it is preferred. Regular operation keeps new fuel moving through the fuel supply system, oil fed throughout the engine lubrication system, coolant & brake fluid circulating, transmission seals lubricated, A/C system lubricated, heat in the car reducing humidity/stagnation and electrical contacts operating preventing corrosion. I personally don't think that low miles is a good thing, and I've seen low-miles basket cases we've had to part out. Put it this way, you could easily take the $50K savings and apply it to maintenance for the next 20 years! Same car whether it's got 10K miles or 100K. Notes: Engine air tubes are removed for photos. They are in exc condition, because I used carbon cold air intake piping. Engine undertrays were removed for fluid changes and I've left them off for buyer inspection before final sale. I have both the aluminum and front fiber panels. Windshield has a 3" flex/crack on passenger-side corner. I've actually seen this on other 928s before. Been like that since I purchased the car. Foglamp passenger has been repaired, I have a new lense as well. Comes with two keys, acc key set, manuals, leather luggage cover & stock net, tools, jack, spare and aftermarket compressor Clock works and keeps good time. Power Locks, Seats, windows, mirrors, sunroof all operate and function great. All locks, hinges, linkages, tracks etc were lubed recently by removing the door panels. CD player will not play CD's due to head/laser issue. Very typical for this stock Alpine manufactured deck. Brakes are Front 80% / Rear 80%
