Description

Up for bid is a clean 1986 Porsche 944 N/A. India Red with the light colored interior with Porsche logo cloth inserts in the seats. Has all the usual power options plus A/C and the lift out sunroof and a stunning factory upgrade steering wheel. Runs and drives good with no strange noises except a little brake squealing. I bought the car about 4 years ago and never really drove it except around the block a few times and over to my parents house a few miles away once or twice. The only reason it didn't get driven more is because it needs a clutch. Car runs and drives very well but if you know these cars you know that the rubber clutch disc center will eventually fail and you end up driving around on a couple of metal back up tabs in the clutch disc that allows you to move. Makes a lovely clanking noise when you back off the throttle without first depressing the clutch . Definitely not something that can just be ignored - clutch definitely needs to be replaced, just never found the time to do it - too many other projects. This would be a great project car for someone as it needs very little to be super nice. I've got a clean, clear title and pile of paperwork that goes with it - receipts going back to when it was almost new. The car is currently in storage, and has been for the last 2-1/2 years. Gas is old (put it in right before I stored the car before moving back to Arizona) but has Stabil in it so it won't gum things up. Flew out to check on it last month and it fired right up and drove fine. I've decided it's been in storage too long and that I'll probably never get to it so its time for it to go. I'll run through the details section by section below. Oh, and be sure to look closely at the photos as they are definitely part of the description.

Body – Body is super nice with no rust anywhere. No evidence it was ever in a major accident. No waves or filler in the body. There are a few dings and I've included photos to show them. There's one over the passenger rear tire, a ding and scrape on the edge of the hood about where the right front tire is located, and dent on the bottom of the passenger front fender at the very bottom, almost like it ran over a speed bump or curb and bottomed out on it. Really, other than those areas the body is great. One of the bumper pads out back has a broken stud which is why it stands proud of the bumper on the passenger side. Gasket around the hatch button on the back has deteriorated and needs to be replaced. Oh, and sometime way back in it's past, likely by the original owner, it had one of those horrible alarms installed that used a key to disarm it right in the side of the drivers front fender. There's a special place in hell for the people that did this to this car and it seems every single 70's Corvette ever made.

Paint - The paint is mostly original. The front fascia and drivers side headlight cover have for sure been painted. I prepped, painted, and installed the headlight cover to replace the damaged one that was on the car. I also prepped and painted the door ding strips on the side of the car as they had faded as they often do. I believe the rest of the paint is original. Please keep in mind that cars on ebay always look better in photos than in person. This car is no exception although it is very nice. It does have assorted nicks, stone chips, and scratches as any 30+ year old unrestored car would. Lower edges of the body have plenty of small stone chips from all the miles put on it over the years. Porsche decal above the rear bumper has burn marks from a prior owners over aggressive use of a buffer.

Chassis/Running Gear – Engine runs good with no strange noises (belt and water pump done at 133K but that was 10 years ago so replacement in the near future would be a good idea.) Clutch needs to be replaced. Rear axle is fine. Brakes were done shortly before I bought the car and work great but do squeal a bit. Car handles great and stops straight. Power steering leaks but not catastrophically. The high cooling fan doesn't kick on (tested it and it works so the relay must be bad) but it doesn't overheat. A/C blew snow when I put the car in storage 2-1/2 years ago but now blows warm so there is a leak somewhere. Headlights pop up fine, all other lights work to the best of my knowledge.

Interior – Interior is in pretty good shape but does have some dash cracks, a couple of seat tears, and strangely, threadbare carpet under the hatch. All of this can be seen in the photos. The seat inserts will need a good cleaning as they do show some soiling - not surprising for a car this old that saw a lot of use. The rest of the interior is nice.

Tires/Wheels - Wheels have been carefully wet sanded to remove chips, primed, wet sanded again and then painted and clear coated. Center caps were lightly polished for contrast. Goodyear tires in the factory size were put on shortly before I bought the car and have almost no miles on them.

Misc - The drivers side outer door handle is getting finicky - the cable must be stretched as you have to really squeeze the handle firmly for it to open but it does always open. Hood struts are getting weak - sometimes the hood stays up, sometimes it doesn't. Got a whiff of a raw gas smell the last time I drove it so the lines should be checked to be sure nothing is leaking.

That’s about it. Now the boring fine print. The car is located in Nixa, Missouri (home of Jason Bourne!) a suburb of Springfield, Missouri with easy access to major freeways like I-44. Mileage listed is what is currently on the odometer. Title is clean and clear and in my name. Car is safely stored inside a storage unit, out of the elements. My Dad lives nearby and will be there when car is picked up to get it out of storage. Winning bidder will need to provide a $500 non-refundable (unless I’ve grossly misrepresented something) Paypal deposit within 24 hours of auction close, with the balance in cash on pickup of the car or simply pay the whole amount with Paypal. Winning bidder will need to make arrangements to have the car picked up within 2-weeks of auction close. No guarantees or warranties of any kind are being given with this car. Car is being sold as-is, where-is. As with anything 30+ years old, things can and will go wrong, assume that something will go wrong with this car at some point. Thanks for reading and please ask any questions before bidding. Thanks!
