1976 Porsche 912E with 1970 911S Engine!
Description
1976 912E coupe, with a 1970 911S MFI engine installed. Good condition original California Blue Plate car, with a fair correct color respray from way back and nice interior. One of only 500 or so sunroof cars (sunroof works great, as does everything else down to the radio and clock). But don't buy it for the cosmetics - this mechanically excellent, 911S engine screams, as only the early, metallic stack, MFI motors did.
This is a real "S" engine, built to proper "S" specs, on a 1973 911T case. Rust free chassis has around 200k miles, and the engine and build have around 15k. Comes with stacks and stacks of records (showing over $18,000 in service), books and manuals, and full tool roll. There has been much work done, to make it an excellent and reliable driver, including Carrera chain tensioners, new Optima battery, new tires, and so on.The car runs and drives very well. The 915 trans shifts fabulously, and it has excellent steering and brakes.Period Momo steering wheel is installed. Good oil pressure, does not run hot.Period Becker Europa AM/FM/Cass in proper DIN hole in the dash.
Overall the car shows nicely. The interior is very nice, with a crack free dash and seats, newer (lightweight RS style) carpeting, and nice rear seats (rear seatbacks and seatbelts have been removed, but are in the front trunk along with jack, tools and spare). The paint is ok, in the original silver, but there area couplespots where thepaint is pulling from the body (not due to ANY rust at all, there is none), due to poor prep work on the re-spray. Again, with this car, we're not focusing on the paint.
This is a really rare chance to experience the unique joy of a 2.2 911S MFI engine in full song at a very low price and in an especially usable car. Car was rebuilt and owned long term by noted Porsche author and authority Jim Schrager, who summed it up best, when he described it as "a rust proof 911S sunroof that you can actually drive and enjoy. Drive it to the mall to buy socks, as the Lord God Ferdinand Porsche intended."
