Description

I have decided to make room in the garage, thusly making available this 1956 Vintage 550 Spyder, that I have loved, and am begrudgingly letting go. I have recently with it as my canvas paid tribute to Porsche successful campaign in the 1954 Carrera Panamericana, (delivered new 12/2002 to Chad Nelson). This is a two owner car since delivery, with approximately 6,000 miles since new. This particular example/build.... ENGINE/POWERTRAIN: 2276cc, 8.5:1 compression, 150 hp motor, with period correct Porsche stamped Valve covers (they look awesome), external oil cooler, scat 1.5 qt thin line sump, K&N HP-2004 oil filter, CB 35mm lifters and chromoly push rods, Bosch 009 solid state distributor, Bosch blue coil, NGK DP8EA-9 spark plugs @ .30 gap, Weber (dual) 44-IDF carburetors, Ceramicoated straight pipe headers also included not installed (CB dual Magnaflow muffler exhaust), 4 speed manual, 3:44 ring and pinion, hydraulic clutch. CHASSIS: 3” tubular steel frame (Porsche original design), Aluminum floor (Not fiberglass like other examples), Front Bilstein coil overs with disc brakes, 185/65/15 tires with light weight alloy wheels and racing studs, Rear Bilstein coil overs with disc brakes, 185/60/15 tires with light weight alloy wheels and racing studs, wheel base 85”, height 40”, length 146”, weight a tick under 1,300 lbs. COACHWORK: Two period correct racing buckets with lap belts (currently mounted directly to the floor in the furthest back position to gain lowest center/most room, I’m a little over 6’5” so.... that’s why, adjustable seat tracks included), we sourced sourced through Vintage the Proper banjo steering wheel, with matching ivory colored knobs/levers, drivers only plexi windscreen, as well as the fiberglass cover for the passenger compartment. This to a massive amount of fabrication, we deleted the full windshield glass/and wipers, and the cover let’s just say we were not happy with the fit at all, so we spent hours making it perfect. It lend to that super cool vintage race vibe. It is easily removed without the need of any tools to add a passenger. We then added the 1954 race livery from the winning Campaign of the 1954 Carrera Panamericana, which was piloted by Hans Herrmann. Since we have affectionately named this car “Hans”. Yes I realize that the body of the actual 1954 Spyder differed than that of the 1956. The James Dean thing just seemed a bit over done, and being I’ve been around Porsche my whole life and and avid owner/collector, I just always loved that story and the livrey, for those of different taste it is vinyl and can be removed. This car also has many spares, Exhaust, wheels, soft top (never used, why would ya), fabric zippered driver and passenger compartment cover, full car cover and miscellaneous parts. You can reach directly with questions, I am a licensed boutique car dealer, however this is from my private collection, and I’m happy to discuss the car. The price is firm, I will consider trades, given the situation fits, thank you for looking. -Alex 608-403-3474
