Description

Porsche Club of America owner since Feb 1989. This is the last of the classic early short wheelbase 911 beautifully restored and improved with added sunroof clip, fresh re-spray in Signal Red in June 2015, and the comfort of A/C added including an updated Sanden rotary compressor and R134 freon. Engine has been rebuilt and upgraded to 2.2”E” specs. Exhaust gives a classic 911 sound enhanced with dual outlet exhaust, and this classic 911 has performance and handling meant to be enjoyed. I’ve put countless man-hours into this car, and it has never looked or driven better. Shown in Sep 2017 Dayton Concours D’Elegance, was judged at 85 of 90 points - so it is a strong #2 car. The front nose panel was damaged in a crash and replaced sometime before I bought the car, so it is titled as a 1966 VIN #304694, but the rest of the chassis and trim reflect the 911L VIN #11805130, which is in the proper range of 1968 911L Coupe USA production of #11805001 to #11805449. Have COAs for both VINs and picture in the ad during the restoration of the actual 911L VIN # stamped on the dash underneath the radio, and evidence of the original blue color. Mileage is now approx. 58,497, was 47,463 at purchase w/ odometer discrepancy noted on title, so miles are not original. With the thorough restoration the actual “born again” mileage is 11,034. The trim is all 911S and the engine bonnet has the 911L trademark gold louvers. A thorough initial 11 year restoration was implemented including: -Front pan, inner and outer rockers, rear torsion tube replacement, and rust repair done on doors and fenders. Roof and pillars replaced with an undamaged sunroof clip from a wrecked 911. -All removable body panels were stripped, and primered. The tub was bead blasted to bare metal. Any corroded areas were cut out and replaced with new metal. Undercoating was stripped and re-sprayed with 3M undercoating. Panels and tub were sealed, primered, and sprayed in Signal Red. All door-fender body gaps were perfected and re-spray completed in June 2015 with Dupont ChromeaBase Signal Red base coat and clear coat. Paint was thoroughly wet-sanded, buffed, and polished to a beautiful finish. -All trim was either replaced, re-chromed, or refurbished. All rubber seals and weatherstrips were replaced. -Dash was re-finished in leather, seats and rest of interior were replaced in black vinyl. Door panels, carpet, floor mats, and headliner were all replaced. Period-correct Blaupunkt restored radio w/ USB adapter installed, and Blaupunkt door speaker are mounted internally in the door. Momo competition steering wheel installed. All instruments were restored and surrounding flat black dash paint re-sprayed. Fitted w/ new 3-way front chest and lap belts, and new lap belts on rear seats. -All front and rear suspension and sway bar bushings replaced with urethane bushings, and repainted. Rubber brake hoses have been replaced with braided stainless steel lines. -Fitted with fiberglass “S” front bumper. Also have original steel front bumper restored and repainted w/ Signal Red in 2015 with the car re-spray. Have original front bumper lead corner weights as well (not installed!). Fitted with aftermarket through-the-grill fog lights. Have numerous metal original horn grills as well. The gas tank interior has been cleaned, chemically treated, and repainted and undercoated. There are dents in the underside of the tank which are visible in the pictures, possibly a by-product of the front end crash. The gas tank has never shown any signs of leakage. Factory Behr Air conditioning evaporator, front and rear condensers, rotary compressor, and under dash vent assembly added, and converted to R134 Freon. Rare aluminum case transmission and differential were thoroughly refreshed with new bearings and synchros, and a short shift kit has been installed. 15 x 5.5 beautiful polished Fuchs wheels w/ black lugnuts and painted Porsche crest polished centers. Brand new Dunlop Signature II tires and tubes are mounted and balanced. The spare is a Fuchs that has been repainted, and the trunk carpet has been replaced, as has the engine insulation. Battery was replaced in Dec 2017. The original 911L engine (serial #3280420 according to COA) was gone when I bought the car. The installed engine is a rare “sand cast” aluminum case Serial #907843, type 901/14, code #11133. Approximately 10,800 miles on complete top and bottom rebuild w/ 2.2 “E” pistons and cylinders, 2.4 “T” heads, oil-fed chain tensioners, Jerry Wood Racing rebuilt distributor Dec 2016, MSD 6A ignition w/ rev limiter, cleaned and rebuilt Weber IDA 40 3C Carbs with Watershield Air Cleaners, fuel pressure regulator and gauge. Jet hot coated heat exchangers and dual outlet exhaust with ride side matching original left side exhaust pipe w/ chrome covers. Recent $3500 service completed by P3 Autocraft in Oct 2017 included: replacement of oil level sender; replaced front crank seal & intermediate shaft gasket; replaced left cam bearing seal & gaskets, replaced valve cover gaskets and ground valve covers flat; clean, adjust, and synchronize Weber carburetors, adjust valves, measured small electrical current draw with key off (0.25 ohms).
