There are certain vehicles that are timeless, evoke emotion, and maintain value. One of these vehicles, as everyone has learned, is the "air cooled Porsche". Now to most, without a Porsche encyclopedia, this world is as far and vast as our solar system, but there is one given, they are going up in value.
This 1967 Porsche 911 Coupe is a great example of this. This is a Numbers Matching example, with some patina, very little rust, that starts EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. This is an honest, driver quality car, that is on the spectrum of high investment grade, in this condition, and restored. The 1967 911 is a Short Wheel Base (SWB) Variant, and as some may know, that is one of the more rapidly appreciating areas of the air cooled world. This numbers matching car lived most of it's life between Colorado and Arizona, where we found it, and was driven often and serviced necesssarily. In Simple terms, this is a SURVIVOR.
Originally Irish Green, at some point it had a White Paint Job completed. It isn't a show quality paint job, but it does shine nice. A few signs of sub par body work, but nothing with filler, and nothing hiding rust. On a lift, it is also apparent that rust was NEVER an issue with this car, which still retains it's factory pans and body work. The only rust we found was a small spot in the smugglers box, which could be easily patched, but has never bothered us.
The interior is in excellent condition, with a few scratches on the dashboard trim, and some other patina. But, It smells old, it feels old, and it arouses your senses as you drive it. That is what it is all about.
Mechanically, it always starts. It can sit for 2 months, and it starts right up. It does occasionally need some carb tuning, but that is a common service on these cars.
Power is provided by the matching-numbers 2.0-liter flat-six, which is mated to a 5-speed manual transaxle and has been fitted withWeber 40 IDA carburetors and a newer exhaust. The car has recently been serviced with new sparkplugs and fluids, as well as a brake system inspection. She runs strong, and I have personally driven her to 90MPH in comfort. The Vredestein tires are probably old, and the steel wheels with Moon Caps show some patina, but that is all part of the story.
Whether you want a Weekend cruiser as is, a restoration candidate, or an outlaw hot rod base (which was our original plan), you can't go wrong with a running driving SWB 911 under 6 figures. They rarely (if ever?) exist!
