This 1981 Porsche 928 ran when parked about 13 months ago, but does not currently start. It sounds like it is trying to start, and it will run for a few seconds with starting fluid, so I believe it is fuel related, and it has fuel pressure and spark. If I had more time before my move, I would fix it and sell for the fair price, but I don't so I am taking a huge loss. I am the 3rd owner, I purchased it in NY state in 2006 for $12K. It has been in FL since 2007, but has almost no corrosion due to fact that it is mostly aluminum, and the steel frame is coated. It has a cracked windshield from a mango that fell and broke the glass. The front seat leather has multiple cracks, the passenger is the worst shape. The front bumper has a small crack in the vinyl, rear bumper scratches and the rear right lens is cracked, but notnoticeable, all due to two REALLY bad parallel parkers in NY. It has new clutches, pressure plate and intermediate plate, slave cylinder and clutch cylinder. All the Bosch fuel injectors were replaced about 2 years ago. The battery is about 3 years old, but I maintain it with a charger routinely. The engine has always had synthetic oil routinely changed, no knocks or problems aside from not starting now. It has a Borla stainless steel exhaust system. The wheels are the original 16" phone dial wheels. The rear tires are toast, but honestly I would replace all 4 before I ever took it out to run at the rate of speed these things are easily capable of. The brakes work great, the rotors have slight pitting from sitting up. It has a functional A/C but a recharge isnecessary, as it was losing its cool. The sunroof and windows all work. The power locks do not, but it only has 2 doors, so manual locking isn't that hard. I believe it was repainted about 15 years ago, it still looks good when polished up, but that are flaws here and there, included a chip by the headlamp, one on the sunroof, and the large scratch on the right front fender. The pictures say a thousand words, butfeel free to ask anyquestions, or visit the car before bidding as I do not wish to mislead anyone. The odometer reads 25171, but I was told it the original unit failed and was replaced prior to my purchase as it had about 70K on the clock before so the actually mileage is right about 100K. The vehicle is sold as is.
Before it was parked ran great, but had a clutch problem and once that was repaired, I wasn't able to drive it as much, as at the same time I bought a house, worked on that, had a kid, and now we are relocating to Hawaii, so I will have to pass this on to someone who had the time to appreciate the fun of these great classics cars. This was never my commuter car, only driven for pleasure in favorable conditions. Every timeI would drive this car I feel in love again, swore I would never sell it, but now I find myself driving a minivan and selling everything to pack up and move across the planet. I hope I don't regret it, but I feel I already am.
If you are not familiar with the 928, it is an aluminum body V8 front engine, rear trans-axle Porsche, that is like the ultimate musclecar. It was designed in the mid 70's when Porsche believed that the American Congress might ban rear engine vehicles due to instabilityexposedwith the Chevy Corvair vs. Nadercontroversy. Ironically the revolutionary design of the rear suspension thatpremieredwith the 928 solved theover steerproblemthat made rear engine cars so dangerous. Becausethe body weight distributed 50/50, this model handlesbeautifully. It will easily run 140 mph (safely on lone deserted highway or track) and any curve at 90-100 mph.
