Description

A rare find. A very low mileage, unmodified 944. These cars are comfortable, handle great, and have a huge amount of room under the hatch for gym bags or groceries or anything else. For all those reasons, people like to drive them. They also like to modify them and race them, so finding one like this that is all original with only 20,000 miles on it is rare. Check it out. Guards Red is a popular color for these cars. Sports cars are supposed to be Red, especially when they sit low and wide and have big bulging fenders. Add to that the look of the factory option, black Fuchs wheels, black window trim, and a black rear spoiler that wraps around the side of the hatch, and you have a gorgeous, solid looking car. Up front, the hood slopes down to meet the body colored bumper with hideaway headlights flanking a Porsche crest in the center. Air flow for the radiator and brake cooling is all gathered up through the integrated spoiler below the bumper that incorporates a set of fog lights and wraps around the side to the front wheels. The flared rear fenders curve back in smoothly under the hatch glass with a 944 badge and Porsche in script delicately outlined in black just over the back bumper. Open the door and you will find a Black interior that is seriously close to showroom mint. The door panels as well as the dash and controls are scratch and blemish free. Have a seat in the comfortable leather high back buckets seats that are power operated and built by Recaro for Porsche. The door panel has power window and mirror switches at the top with a long armrest and a speaker with convenient door pockets along the bottom. A leather wrapped steering wheel with a Porsche center feels good in your hands, and the shifter for the 5-speed manual transmission is perfectly placed for spirited driving in the center console. This car is a mid-year, 1985 model which means that it benefited from some significant changes like a redesigned dash. The gauge cluster was improved and became housed in a large oval pod with the vents for the heat and air conditioning integrated off to the side. The radio has been updated to an iPod compatible AM/FM/CD player for your listening pleasure. Open the hood and you will find a 2.5-liter overhead cam 4-cylinder engine nestled down in the engine bay between the shock towers. It is fuel injected and sits low to help achieve the legendary handling capabilities of this car. Car and Driver voted it the Best Handling Car in America and included it in their 10 best car list for several years running. Also contributing to that title and the neutral handling characteristics of the car is the rear mounted transaxle that creates a 50/50 weight distribution. Power rack and pinion steering lets you feel the road through the steering wheel and mid-year improvements include new cast alloy control arms front and rear as well as a larger fuel tank and an upgraded alternator. Porsche has always been known for their powerful brakes and this car is no exception. 4-wheel disc brakes can slow this car down in a hurry. This car is a sweet, low mileage, example of another legendary Porsche. Check it out. And maybe check out your local Porsche club too. They have socials and Cars and Coffee events and sometimes organize caravans to museums and races. Their by line is "It's not just the cars, it's the people".
