Fresh finished build 911R clone based on 1968 912. 10+ year project by enthusiast. Top quality parts, new built engine and transmission. Some minor issues still need attention but basically ready to enjoy.
1968 912 SWB shell media blasted, seam welded and reinforced. Epoxy primed 100%, SEM truck bed liner wheel wells and underside. Floors, inner/outer rockers, front pan replaced. Custom fabrication for front fluidyne oil cooler and fuel safe 22 gal. fuel cell. Rear shock mount and torsion tube reinforced. Chassis rear crossmember replaced with structural tube.
Front fenders, doors, front/rear bumpers, hood and engine lid fiberglass from tre motorsports. Rear flares custom hand made to match 911R, butt welded to replaces factory quarter panels. Very minimal body filler used - welds and body imperfections clearly visible. Paint is single stage, not good quality job with amateur patches. Intended to eventually get a pro paint job. No issues with corrosion at all and no questions on what is under the paint because every imperfection is easily seen - not covered up.
Engine is a early sandcast 1966 case with piston squirters, later intermediate shaft bearings and oil by-pass mod done. L&N nickies 87.5mm cylinders and 9.5 CR pistons (2.35L displacement) with friction coated skirts. Pauter rods and ARP rod bolts. Polished non-counter weighted crank with 964 intermediate steel gear set. Calico coated main and rod bearings. Turbo oil pump, supertech head studs, euro headers with thermal ceramic coating. Rebuilt stock 1970 S heads. DC20 108 cams (mod solex), turbo tensioners and new PMO 40 carbs. Distributor rebuilt and re-curved to match cams by Barry Hershon. Amber fiberglass shroud and surround, carrera fan, rebuilt alternator and 993 oil console - no on engine cooler. This engine would cost $40k easily to build on its own.
Transmission is A 5 speed 901 rebuilt by Eurosport with all syncros replaced and Wavetrac differential added. New axles/CV joints. Shifter is a 935 style by Fabcar. Clutch is a Kennedy stage 2. Stock machined flywheel. Engine and trans mounts are wevo blues.
Oil system is all new oil lines, stock brass lines and thermostat to front oil cooler with AN-12 to large fluidyne oil cooler in front. Oil tank is extended for extra 2 quart capacity, All AN-16 hoses to engine oil lines.
Electrical is all new harness, MSD ignition and Braille battery. Steering column is shaved of turn signal and wiper stalks so turn signals are activated by toggle switch. Ignition, fuel pump, lights and wipers activated by switches on dash. Gauges all rebuilt except clock. Oil pressure/level and Temp gauges are not working correctly. Relays added for starter (rebuilt stock), fuel pump and headlights. All brake and turn signals are LED bulbs in original lights.
Suspension is all powdercoated with new wheel bearings, elephant polybronze bearings and monoballs. Bilstein struts have 16mm raised spindals and are re-valved along with rear shocks. 30mm rear and 22 hollow front torsion bars. Weltmeister front sway, no rear swaybar. Steering rack is quick ratio and has turbo tie rods and raised rod ends.
Interior has repo 935 lollypop driver seat and RS passenger seat. No carpet, just epoxy ceramic paint. Red vinyl w/ sound foam roof panel in lieu of headliner. Gary Boss door latches - not connected to outside 911R door handles. Dash and Knee pad are in ok condition - not great. Matter style roll bar set back for taller driver. Crow seatbelt harnesses. MOMO Prototipo quick-release steering wheel. Custom throttle pedal with new external throttle cable to custom linkage mount on engine.
Rear window clear non-defrost with some scratches but in good condition. Windshield is new sekurit and door windows are lexan sliders with 911R vented quarter windows glued in. All seals are new throughout.
Brakes are custom Wilwood superlight with 2 piece vented rotors front and rear. Dual balance bar pedal box with new tilton master cylinders. All brake lines new copper with braided teflon flex hoses. Brakes and raised spindles require 16” wheels. Wheels are factory Fuchs with raw aluminum finish. Fronts are 16x6 and rears are 951 16x7 size. New 195/55 front and 205/50 rear Bridgestone Potenza RE 760 sport tires.
Issues:
Clock not hooked up
Oil level/pressure and temp gauges not reading correctly.
PMO carbs need adjusting - run fine when warm but difficult to start cold.
Paint is amateur, Panel gaps need some work.
Minor oil leak from lower valve covers - no other oil leaks at all.
Shifter/transmission very stiff shifting. Not sure if syncros need breaking in or if 935 shifters are this stiff. see tons of pictures of the start to finish build process: https://www.flickr.com/photos/143515217@N07/albums/72157703426456644
