Description

1958 PORSCHE Speedster
VIN 84555
Here for your consideration is an iconic 1958 Speedster. This vehicle has been a California car all of it’s life. The current owner acquired this prime example of a classic Speedster as a complete, but unassembled car in 1999. It had been disassembled; underwent a complete repaint; and sat unassembled for 25 years. The previous owner had custody of the car from the late 1960s through mid- 1999. Two owners for the past 50+ years! The current restoration was completed in 1999/2000. Most of the original trim, body and mechanical components were restored, rather than replaced with reproduction parts. The 45,596 miles shown on the odometer is believed to actual, total miles on the chassis!
There has never been any body damage to this car! All body panels are numbers matching to the chassis. The pan is rust-free and original (with the exception of the battery box which was replaced with the correct reproduction part.) The body is exceptionally nice and exhibits excellent gaps and fit. The original engine case & drum brakes are boxed up and will accompany the car.
Although an older restoration, this car remains in very nice cosmetic condition. The paintwork was completed to high standards and has very few blemishes. The trim and chrome are in very nice condition. The glass and lights are in very good condition. Tail lights upgraded to LEDs.
The interior is very nicely done using tan vinyl with black piping and correct square weave carpets in an oatmeal color. The dashboard is excellent, and the instruments are in very good condition. The correct rubber floor mats, as well as “period” coco mats are both in excellent condition. (The car has the original steering wheel, horn-ring, and horn button showing 57 years of patina. The knobs are original and correct.
The car runs and drives superbly. This is an ideal car for the buyer that is looking for increased performance with an original presentation. The gearbox is excellent, and the engine is very strong. The chassis feels very solid. The car rides on 5.5 x 15 chrome wheels and adjustable Koni shocks at all four corners. The car handles extremely well. The engine compartment and trunk both present well and representative of an older restoration. The trunk has the correct leather spare tire strap, and is solid throughout. The original jack is in place.
This is a great opportunity to acquire a well restored example of the iconic Speedster with wonderful performance upgrades. If you’ve been wanting a 356A Speedster without the primitive qualities of drum brakes or the early 356A transmissions, the car offered here is the answer. These cars occupy a unique place in motoring history, and have appreciated significantly in recent years because of their timeless appeal and usability. This particular example is ready to enjoy, is fully sorted, and is quite complete with all weather equipment including new side-curtains, spare tire and wheel.
The car is attractive and makes a great impression. In fact, given that the car drives so well, it would be a pity not to enjoy this car often.
This Speedster has just been completely serviced and gone through, it really needs nothing. Everything is in order down to windshield wipers & heater. I would not hesitate to drive this car across the country !! Located in Petaluma, Ca. Please contact me through eBay for more pictures or to arrange a showing. Cheers !!
