For Sale: 1980 Porsche 911 SC
FULLY READ THIS
We have owned this Porsche since around 2003. It has always been garage kept since the day we bought it, as well as covered with an all-season cover when it wasn’t in use. We have done regular maintenance on it as needed, and the time has come to sell in light of a recent engine problem.
Back in 2012, the car was taken to Farmer Automotive in Indiana (a supposed experienced and competent Porsche mechanic). We spent around $12K for a full engine rebuild/refresh. Farmer tore it down and completed this “rebuild”. Afterwards, the engine was properly re-broken back in according to his stipulations. The engine has had less than 3K miles put on it since the rebuild. In 2017, vehicle was being driven down the interstate when it suddenly developed a very loud knock. We took it to another Porsche mechanic, Pat Williams Racing, who diagnosed it as spun rod bearing (this was based on the sound of the engine/knock ONLY, as he has not opened it up to confirm if this is the problem). There is also potential that additional damage was done when the bearing went. While the engine still canrun, it is very rough with an extremely loud knock, and it has not been run since Pat diagnosed it.
We kept the car for a couple years in hopes to fix it, but we have lost interest in it and we are ready to move on to something else. The buyermust understandthat this vehicle will require either engine disassembly for repairsor possibly engine replacement depending on the damage caused internally.
