Exterior walk around showing exterior condition
Interior clip showing interior condition
Driving clips showing it drives very nicely, shifts great, runs great, brakes as it should, gauges are working, and also showing reflections in the finish. ***Note: The external microphone was mounted by the exhaust driving clips thus the car sounds louder in the video than it actually is. It really is quite quiet.

Exterior Condition:
This 928 S4 is a very attractive vehicle and example. It definitely is not perfect but it presents very well for a non-restored 33 year old vehicle with largely original paint. Make sure to view the video walk around. The finish is the factory applied blue metallic which largely is in impressive condition. The exterior was detailed this summer (buffed with compound, buffed with polish, hand waxed). The finish is quite glossy, smooth, and deep. Due to the age and mileage, there are some spots of wear. The front facing extremities have typical minute chips as does the area behind the wheels on the rockers. There are some other typical minor scratches here and there from use like on the front of the front bumper, roof, and elsewhere. The driver rear quarter looks to have received some paintwork. The CarFax is of course clean and prior owner confirms there were no accidents. It seems as though there might have been a minor scrape that was addressed at some point. There is absolutely no evidence of significant damage, bondo, etc. The remainder of the paint over the whole vehicle looks to be 100% factory original which is impressive for a 33 year old vehicle. The body panels themselves are overall in great shape. I had paintless dent repair performed to remove some minor typical dings and it is nearly ding free now. On the passenger side where the rear quarter meets the door there is a ding that the majority of has been removed. Certain areas like the fenders, hood, roof, etc. look nearly perfect other than the noted minor knicks and such. Having a father that was an automotive painter for 40 years and having restored some vehicles to a high level with him, I am definitely picky about a vehicle’s finish and always prefer for my vehicles to have their factory applied finish. The finish on this 928 overall is impressive for the age and presents very well.
The remainder of the exterior is in the condition to be expected for the age. The glass is in nice shape. Weatherstripping is fine. The rear spoiler is in excellent condition. The rear bumperettes are in excellent shape. Lenses are good, clear, and glossy. The wheels are in very nice shape and are polished. The wheel wells and underbody is great, showing their originality and having not been repaired. The engine bay is clean, stock, and with a bit more detailing would look even better. The engine paint is not flaking like on so many of these cars. The door jambs and hatch jamb are excellent as are the battery tray and spare tire well. There is absolutely NO rust on this 928. Porsche galvanized these bodies so it is not uncommon that they stay rust free for so long.
None of the above mentioned wear/aging in the finish and remainder of the exterior is distracting from the presentation of this car but it is “patina” that would cause it to not really be the type of example to put in a Concours show type event. It is though plenty nice for the Porsche enthusiast that wants to actually drive their example and do club events while not being excessively concerned about getting a stone chip or knick. It looks as good in person as it does in the photos and videos.
Interior Condition:
The interior on this 928 is a nice place to be. They are so luxurious and comfortable feeling. The interior has recently been detailed and presents very nicely. The interior is the stock dark blue color. There are no cigarette burns or evidence of having ever been smoked in and as confirmed by the prior owner back to 1992. The interior is nice enough to be enjoyed as is or it could use a few things here and there to bring it up to the next level. The dash has typical cracking as shown which if one desires there are interior shops that can repair this or recover it. The steering wheel leather wrap could use some new thread and if desired be re-dyed. The shift knob is similar in that it could use a re-dying and also could be soaked in some conditioner to soften it and stretch it out better. The seats overall are in nice shape. The driver side has just a little wear through into the piping which can be seen in the photos/video. Otherwise it and the passenger side are very nice. Re-dying those areas would go a long way in making them even better. They still though are supple enough and the foam very comfortable. The rear seats are in nice shape. The carpet throughout is in nice shape. New high quality front floor mats have been installed. The door panels are in real nice shape. The gage cluster is excellent. Headliner is excellent. Center console area is excellent. The majority of the original tools are present.
The interior overall is quite nice. It could easily be enjoyed as is or with a few things be brought up another level.
Mechanical Condition:
Extensive maintenance has been performed on this 928 recently and it has been regularly maintained. The timing belt and water pump maintenance was recently done (2018) and completed at a Porsche shop. Maintenance receipts go as far back as 1992. The 928 drives very nicely!
Some recent maintenance and other significant maintenance includes:
Summer of 2020 (Performed at Porsche specialist):
-New premium, and CORRECT stock size Yokohama Advan A052 (225/50/16 front, 245/45/16 rear)
-ABS relay replaced
-A/C converted to R134a, new drier, works great now
-Instrument cluster sent to California Porsche specialist to repair odometer and some gauges
-New steering rack, fluid, some new seals, etc. (prior was leaking)
-Four wheel alignment
-Both CV boots replaced
-New driver power seat switch
-New battery
2019 & 2018 (Performed at Porsche shop):
-Timing belt re-tensioned
-New fuel pressure diaphragm installed
-Water pump replaced, new coolant
-Timing belt and tensioner replaced
-New knock sensors
-Engine top end rebuilt
-HVAC repair
-New clutch master cylinder
2017 and Older Noteworthy Maintenance:
-Normal oil changes and air filter changes
-Timing belt, tensioner, coolant
-Drive belts replaced
-Brake pads, rotors, sensors, fluid
-Sunroof switch
-Passing of inspection
-Drive belts
This 928 starts right up and settles into a steady idle. It does not puff any smoke out the back, runs a proper temperature, has excellent oil pressure, does not have any odd noises, etc. The engine is strong throughout the RPM range, revs nicely, and revs smoothly. As evidenced in the receipts, the engine and related systems have been regularly maintained. The exhaust is stock and in excellent shape. The stock catalytic converter is still present as is the catalytic converter sticker thus California buyers should have no problem. It is quite quiet (it is a bit loud in the video footage due to the microphone being mounted near the exhaust tip). The transaxle shifts excellently. Absolutely no popping out of gear, absolutely no grinding, etc. This car of course is an original and difficult to find manual transaxle car. The clutch pedal is great and there are no issues with the clutch. The steering and suspension feels good. Ball joints, wheel bearings, and tie rods were checked and are excellent. A new steering rack was installed in 2020 due to the prior one leaking. A four wheel alignment was performed. The 928 drives super straight and comfortably down the road. The tires were installed new in 2020 and only have a couple hundred miles on them. The tires are the proper stock staggered size (many people cheap out and put skinnier tires on the back) and are high performance Yokohamas that give tons of grip. The brakes are excellent, absolutely no vibration/rotor warp, and there is plenty of pad life left. In terms of driving, this is a get-in-and-go fun driver!
The odometer was professionally repaired by a Porsche specialist and now functions properly. It is well known in the Porsche community how one should NOT push the trip reset while the car is in motion as it causes a plastic gear for the odometer to strip thus causing it to not work. The odometer was non-functioning for 6 or so years and stopped around 56,000 miles. At this point the owner (who owned it since 1992) was not regularly driving the 928 and spent around half of the year out of country too, so not many miles were put on during the time the odometer was not working. So, it is difficult to say if 60,000 or 70,000 is more accurate but either way due to the condition one can tell it is still lower miles for the age, and the odometer works now. It currently just reads under 57,000 miles. The rest of the gauges are in working order. The headlights function properly. The A/C in 2020 was converted to R134a and repaired. It blows super cold now and is powerful enough to enjoy in the sunnier states whereas air cooled 911s are limited in that respect. Windows, sunroof, radio, etc. work. The radio looks to be the stock unit. The on/off knob (a potentiometer) would need to be cleaned to eliminate some scratchiness sound when turning the knob. Both driver seats work properly, and a new switch was installed in the driver side. One area yet that could be addressed is the “Central Warning System” needs some sort of tweaking. This is Porsche’s “hi-tech” 1980s warning system. The system puts out warnings if bulbs are out, coolant low, etc. It does not affect driveability as evidenced in the driving footage, the 928 still drives great and electronics work.
Driving Experience:
I am an exotic car enthusiast having owned various air cooled 911s such as the 930, 964 C4, Carrera, 996, Esprit Turbos, Ferrari 308, Vipers, etc. The 928 S4 with manual transaxle is just as fun and capable, or in many cases more capable, as those but with an even more luxurious and smooth type of feel. It has plenty of power with the new for ‘87 5.0L DOHC aluminum V8 with 316 hp and 315 lb ft of torque. The engine is quite interesting as it has some decent push down low but really likes to be revved and pulls hard towards the top with a satisfying sound and smoothness. Acceleration wise it bests many of its competitors and feels plenty quick in the modern era. The transaxle shifts buttery smooth unlike many of the 80’s 911s. Handling is quite fun and very neutral and braking is impressive with the large calipers and vented discs all around. This really is an impressive performing vehicle that does it in a very mature and understated way. It is the type of classic exotic that can be regularly driven and does not wear you out due to super comfortable seats, a very quiet interior, and actual cold air conditioning! And of course…. It is a pleasure to stand near and admire its aesthetics.
Conclusion:
Congratulations if you have made it this far into this description haha! In summary, the 928 S4 is an excellent classic exotic that can be driven and enjoyed while it continues to increase in value. This example would make an excellent presentable driver for its next owner. Some of the perks of this 928 are its low owner count history, extensive maintenance history, interesting color combo with largely original paint, and of course the manual transaxle! Enjoy it as it is or improve it as you drive it. This 928 has a clean Wisconsin title in my name. Buy with confidence.
Serious buyers are welcome to contact me with any questions or to arrange to see this 928 in person. I do not mind working with long distance buyers (out of state or out of country) and have had many cars shipped overseas in the past. Feel free to message via Ebay or call. Sometimes I do not get notifications from Ebay messages so calling or texting is often better.

This vehicle is located in Sussex, WI 53089. The nearest large airport is Mitchell International in Milwaukee, WI (MKE) which is about 40 minutes away. Transport is of the buyer’s expense. It has been a couple years but I have always used Auto Shipping Group in the past and they have always done good for me. Pending distance I could potentially deliver up to a certain distance and fee. Pending logistics I could potentially pick up the winning bidder at the airport. Again, I do not mind working with out of country buyers either.
