You are bidding on a 1994 Porsche 968 Cabriolet, with a 6 speed manual transmission.
The last ofthe venerable 924/944/951 body style, the 968 is the most powerful and most refined of them all. Imported between 1992 and 1995 – this is becoming a very rare car indeed. Only 2,248 cabriolet’s were imported into the US.
I bought one new in 1994 (this is not the car). It was a hardtop and I thoroughly enjoyed it. She’ll deliver nearly 30mpg while delivering performance that is brisk (0-60mph in 6.0 seconds) from a 4cyl, 16 valve, 236 hp engine. She weighs only 3,100 lbs.
I am selling this 1994 Porsche because I sold the building where my collection resides. I have less than 90 days to move the cars.
Mechanically, this 968 is in very good condition.
•·She starts on the first turn.
•·She settles into a nice idle.
•·She shifts very well – smooth through the gears
•·She brakes very well
•·The convertible top operates very well
•·The power seats work fine
•·The A/C (climate control) works very well – A/C blows cold.
•·The radio is an aftermarket Alpine unit and sounds good
•·The windows operate very well – no cracks or nicks
•The car has only 67,482 miles. I still drive the car so the mileage may be slightly higher at the end of the auction
Cosmetically the car is in great condition for 22 year old car. It was well taken care of.
•·The paint is in great condition, shines nicely - and is a rare Ice Blue Color.
•·The car has the optional side trim which prevented dings on the doors. There are no dings.
•·There is NO RUST on this car – a southern car originally
•·The interior looks fine, the carpet is very clean - it is gray in color. The driver's seat has usualminorbolster wear and we are going to dye the panel to improve theappearance. I'll post a picture once completed.
•·The center console is in very nice shape – I’ve ordered a new shift boot and will replace the old one
•·The door panels are fine
•·The trunk is in excellent condition
•·Under the hood is surprisingly clean, evidence of the low mileage
•·The rims are stock and have very minor curb rash
•·The tires are in good condition, not new but serviceable
•·The convertible top is in excellent condition – no tears or rips of any kind.
•·The exhaust is quiet with no signs of leaks – makes a great sound under acceleration
Here is a nice blurb from Wikipedia:
The 968's styling was an evolution on that of the outgoing 944, itself styled evolutionarily from the earlier 924, but elements were borrowed from the more expensive 928 model in an attempt to create a "family resemblance" between models, and the swooping headlamp design, inspired by those of the 959, previewed similar units found later on the Type 993 911. Along with the new styling, the 968 featured numerous small equipment and detail upgrades, including a Fuba roof-mounted antenna, updated single lens tail lamps, "Cup" style 16" alloy wheels, a wider selection of interior and exterior colors, and a slightly updated "B" pillar and rear quarter window to accommodate adhesive installation to replace the older rubber gasket installation. Because some parts are interchangeable between the 968, 944 and 924, some enthusiasts purchase those parts from Porsche parts warehouses as "upgrades" for their older models.
Like the 944, the 968 was sold as both a coupe and a convertible. Much of the 968's chassis was carried over from the 944S2, which in itself shared many components with the 944 Turbo (internally numbered 951). Borrowed components include the Brembo-sourced four-piston brake calipers on all four wheels, aluminum semi-trailing arms and aluminum front A-arms, used in a Macpherson strut arrangement. The steel unibody structure was also very similar to that of the previous models. Porsche maintained that 80% of the car was new.
The 968, especially the Cabriolet, is gaining quite a following. Comparable 911 prices are twice that of the 968 – so they are a bit of a bargain now. Prices have been increasing and I believe this to be a very collectible Porsche in the near future. With the low mileage on this car, this is a great collector’s piece. They are hard to find with low miles.
I’ve set a very reasonable reserve. Inspections are welcomed. Allemails are answered promptly.
Due to the age of the car it is being sold AS-IS, where is. No warranty is implied or expressed.
