Description

This porsche was brought to Main Line Auto to install new seat base leathers, clutch and get the motor running properly. At the time Main Line had an 82 911 which it had just completed a spuce up. A few weeks into this process the customer decided to purchase the 82 and traded in the this 76. The car was placed in our storage facility and now Main Line has decided to sell it as is. Here is what we know:
The car has one of those paint jobs which changes color depending on the light and your position. We consider the paint job just ok. The base could have been better applied as it is thin in spots. The clear was nicely done and overall the presentation is good. The rockers were painted black, not sure why. The pics I have taken really don't do the car justice. It is in our indoor storage and I wasn't able to wash it and clean it up or move it so that I could properly photograph it. Either come and see it or trust that it is a very decent car overall.
The shop who did the work......again, did an ok job on the interior. The seat base stitching (seats are still at the shop) pics soon, is black and the seat backs have a lighter tread. I notice, I don't know most would. Door cards are missing pockets and most interiors I find have a console piece around the shifter.
The exterior door handle of the driver door isn't working. Most likely a detached rod. Handle is in good condition. The targa top is missing the headliner material and a part of the frame cast aluminum is fractured. It should be able to be repaired.
When the car was brought to Main Line, it wasn't running. According to the owner they had it at another shop where it was running good and was in for a clutch replacement. The shop replaced the clutch and then the car wouldn't run. We removed the motor we found the distributer was way out of time and we were able to start the car. We notice it had no oil pressure though. We removed the motor and found the main oil feed from the oilreservoir was badly pinched under the intake. We also noticed that the work was not done on the clutch. Main Line's opinion was to have the motor pulled apart and checked. This is a fairly specialized job on this motor and not something that they are willing to undertake on spec.
So the bottom line is we can't really say what you have beyond knowing the motor is complete and is original to the car. You can expect to spend roughly 8 to 10K if you have a shop rebuild this motor. You can also take a risk and fix the oil line and reinstall it. It is just too much of a crap shoot for us. As far as we know the gear box is fine.
The car finished is roughly 35K retail if you deduct for the less than perfect paint We think it likely a buyer is going to want to repaint it the original black.
We think our buy it now price of 20 is fair. The Porsche 911 is one of the best investment cars currently in this soft market. We think that our starting bid of 9999 is a steal. First bid and it is going to sell for what it sells for

Founded in 2006, Adirondack Auction Broker, Inc is a leading firm specializing in the disposal of estates, surplus goods, equipment and inventory for business, organizations and governments. We are located in Lake Placid, New York proudly the home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympic Games and a winter and summer playground par excellance.
The corporation is also the parent to Main Line Auto and NYS registered Repair Shop, Public Inspection Station and Used Motor Vehicle Dealership. As a NYS Dealer some vehicles may not be able to be sold to NY State Residents. (We will clearly post this in the posting title when applicable) NY requires an emissions inspection as part of a vehicle sale. Often cars we list here will either not be of the exceptional quality that Main Line insists upon for its retail lot or the vehicle will have enough wrong that it does not warrant the expenditure to bring it to "as new" condition. It doesn't mean the car is bad, it just means that it just isn't for us. It might very well be for you. Most often these cars will sell at thousands under retail.
Fairly often we will list our vehicles "without reserve" This doesn't mean that we start them at a dollar, we start them at a price with think is bottom of the barrel and go from there. When we list we also put a "buy it now price" We do this for those who want the vehicle and don't want to take the chance of being outbid at the end. The BIN price goes away after the 1st bid. The first bidder on a no reserve auction is the winner unless he or she is out bid. After the first bid, the vehicle will sell.
We will alway attempt to describe our vehicles to the best of our ability. We will clearly state if we believe that you can drive it away or if you should have it shipped or pick it up on your trailer.
Clearly, with most vehicles we sell we will have only a passing knowledge of their history both from a collision history or a repair history. We look them over carefully, we drive them when we are able to and try to give you a fair assessment of condition. Be always aware though that your opinion of condition and our opinion may differ. We ask in the strongest terms that you come and look at the car before you decide to bid. If not please message and ask questions. We will always take the time to discuss the vehicle and what we know and we will be honest and let you know what we don't.
At the end of the day, if you purchase from us, we want you happy with your purchase. This only makes sense.
All Vehicles are sold "as is" "where is" As is will apply unless we have erred in our description. If we say it runs and drives, then you have every right to get a refund if it doesn't. If we say it needs a starter, but runs, then you have to put a starter in it to say we didn't describe it correctly. If we say it run, we know it runs because we had it running.
Where is means that you ship it or pick it up. Sometimes we will offer to deliver it for a price. Always we will help your shipper load and assist any way we can. PLEASE. Ship during Business hours.
