Description

1975 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow

The 1950's marked the start of a long-standing relationship between Rolls-Royce and the royal family. Replacing Daimler as the preferred motor car supplier to the British monarchy, Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth took delivery of the first Phantom IV in 1950. Designed exclusively for royalty and heads of state, Phantom IV is one of the rarest Rolls-Royce motor cars in the world, with only 18 ever built.

For consignment, a Silver Shadow from 1975 with all the trappings of a wide range of conveniences, Wilton wool carpets, supple leather seats, and a ride so smooth you will not know you are actually moving due to the use of hydro-pneumatic suspension much like the Citroen.

Exterior
Leading the way is the big chrome grille looking like a classic radiator topped with the Spirit of Ecstasy, and flanked by dual horizontal headlights with large bezels, we are looking all mirror-like on the chrome front. Straight steel panels all rust free are bathed in a Walnut color of warm brown all over this saloon. All trim is nice and straight and retains its shine throughout. A few dings and scratches are seen throughout, and an area of heavy overspray is noted just below the passenger B pillar. Standard black rubber covered bumpers are on front and back and include some chrome trim accenting. Standard RR steel wheels are all around and show no signs any "curbing".

Interior
With a litany of power options, we see saddle covered door panels in padded leather. Power window switches and a power lock system is noted. Turning out attention to the passenger seating, more saddle leather covering supple leather seats, that have a beautiful patina of light usage. Authentic burl wood covers the dash and peppers the center console with wonderful warmth in conjunction with more fine stitched padded leather. A nice fuzzy broadcloth covers the headliner, and on the floors a warm reddish-brown Wilton wool carpet floods the floors. A gander at the back seating and we see fold down footrests and a large rear leather saddle colored bench stretching from padded door panel to padded door panel.

Drivetrain
Under the bonnet we see an original non restored 6.75 Liter V8. This engine gets its delivery of petrol through a Bosch K-Jetronic electronic fuel injection system and has a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission attached. Way back 3.08 rear whisks you down the Orbital Roadway (M25).

Undercarriage
Nicely preserved and very clean I might add with respect to the undercarriage. Mechanically and structurally sound with not even a hint of rust. Independent coil springs all around as well as power disc brakes for when the Bobby puts his hand up to halt you.

Drive-Ability
A turn of the ignition key and this car quickly comes to life. It ran very smoothly, has a wonderful ride, and even corners nicely. I decided to allow our spec writer to drive as I hopped into the rear, and I felt like Royalty on my way to Parliament to argue against Brexit.

A well-preserved example with no rust, a few dings and paint faults, but overall very nice condition. At a mere 50K miles, this dame has lots of luxurious life to offer all in classic style at Classic Auto Mall.
