1989 SAAB 900 SPG Classic
Description
1989 SAAB 900 SPG Classic - $2500 OBO. This is a GREAT rebuilding project for the right person! NO RUST, been in California all its life, as far as I know, and I believe I am the 2nd or 3rd owner (I can't remember, sorry, but many maint records in history...) Lots of little things need to be fixed, such as mirrors and window regulators (lube?) that don't work as they should.
Clean title, currently registered and insured. This is a running vehicle and can be used immediately for transportation. Strong engine, turbo. Good brakes, tires, doesn't smoke. Oil changes have been regular, every 3 to 5 thousand miles for the most part. The transmission leaks a little (probably at inner CV joint / transmission seal), and the engine drips a bit too. It's old!
... and it is ugly, but runs and drives very well! However, it has been increasingly hard to smog (because B.A.R. keeps raising the bar for it to jump over). It WILL need a new catalytic converter that meets CA "stamping" requirements (so it is a fact that it WILL FAIL SMOG for that fact alone), or take it somewhere that doesn't need a cat. It should pass with a new cat and an oil change. Keep it warm! Since it is being sold as a "rebuilding project" it is being sold "AS IS" AND A SMOG CHECK WILL NOT BE PROVIDED PRIOR TO SALE.
- Tires NEW, maybe 3000 miles on them at very most...
- The following was done by Sacramento Jaguar / SAAB in May 2000 at 142000 miles
- Overhauled engine - upper/lower
- Transmission was overhauled
- AC Compressor replaced
- Replaced steering rack and hoses while engine was out
- Replaced headliner
The odometer shows 208300 but it has more miles than that as the odo no longer ticks over. Both front headlights need to be replaced due to rock damage and the windshield has a couple of bulls-eyes in it (out of field of view) from the same incident, but otherwise pretty good ( highway construction on I-5 left debris on roadway ).
The right passenger door was dented years ago, and I have a new door to replace it that will come with the car.
The left rear has slight fender-bender damage that I had already started to repair, but never finished. Easily repairable. The rear bumper cover was damaged in that accident, so I have a replacement for that, and it will be included in the sale.
The right front part of the "aero fairing" is missing, but I have a good replacement for that also, and will be included in the sale.
Wheels are in great condition except one is slightly bent (always has been) so hard to balance perfectly. I've been told it can be fixed at a wheel shop.
Interior is in need of renovation. Period. Front seats leather is junk, rear seat may or may not be fixable, but at least is still in one piece (maybe a lot of TLC ? Sorry, I'm not a leather expert, or I would have kept it better...). Carpet bad. Headliner is showing signs of sagging, but mostly ok.
Exterior (besides the aforementioned slight damages) needs sanding and painting after minor body work. NO RUST except slight surface rust at damage spot on left rear quarter (see pictures).
I have quite a few "extras" beyond that (some new parts, like a complete lock/key set etc.) that are negotiable.
