BODYWORK/TRIM
Commissioned by Shelby American of Las Vegas, Nevada, CSX-4064 wears virtually flawless fiberglass that mixes great fit with a noise-free driving experience. Stiffly reinforced body panels feature the smooth surfaces and typically tight gaps we've come to expect from top-notch customs. The car's excellent finish is a testament to both OEM quality and the true talent and vision of its original builder. And, while few classics strike a perfect balance of outrageous looks, serious performance and excellent attention to detail, this Cobra's timeless red, white and blue aesthetics create a simply irresistible curve carver!
Since the car is authentic enough to be listed in the Shelby American World Registry, you can rest assured that every aspect of this nouveau roadster enhances the original Cobra's innate style and appeal. At the front of its body, chrome-trimmed headlights and bullet-style parking lamps frame a classy Shelby emblem and Satin Black bumperettes. Behind that emblem, a lightweight hood centers a functional scoop in front of small wipers, tinted visors, chrome-trimmed glass and "COBRA" branded wind wings. Below those wings, coated side-pipes complement traditional 427 emblems, finned air extractors and a requisite Monza fuel filler. And at the back of the car, chrome-trimmed taillights illuminate a chrome roll bar, a second Shelby emblem, two more bumperettes and a lockable trunk handle.
ENGINE
Striking a pose is only one of this Cobra's skills; it also does a very good job of going fast and making a lot of noise! Built by Southern Automotive Engines of McDonough, Georgia, and installed by Finishline Motorsports of Las Vegas, Nevada, the car's balanced and blueprinted 427 features an increased stroke that nets a whopping 462 cubic inches of Ford power! At the top of that buff power source, a Stellings & Hellings air cleaner feeds a coated Holley 4150 carburetor that's tethered to a lightweight aluminum intake. At the sides of that carburetor, high performance Edelbrock heads ride below chrome "427 FORD COBRA" valve covers. Beneath those heads, a 4-inch stroke crank combines with a Crane cam, Manley H-beam rods and custom, forged pistons to create stout 10.2 to 1 compression. That compression gets sparked by Accel Hi-Temp Super Stock Spiral Core wires, which snake to a Motorcraft distributor that's wired to a hot MSD ignition system. Beneath those wires, application-specific headers roll charred dinosaurs in to the aforementioned side pipes. And in front of those headers, a big Fluidyne radiator circulates water around a large puller fan and painted overflow tank. You'll be happy to know that the clean V8 has been properly seated in a satin aluminum bay. And you'll be excited to see details, like hard fluid lines, a remote oil filter and chrome dress-up items, that round out a very impressive engine display.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
One of the best things about buying a high quality replica is the modern hardware underneath. Much sturdier than original Cobra fodder, this Shelby's ladder-style chassis and fully independent suspension are clean, lucid and ready to hit the road. Behind the engine, a rugged Toploader 4-speed jerks a Dana 44 rear end, which turns a limited-slip differential around mild, 3.54 gears. Those gears are countered by four manual calipers, which squeeze four solid discs. At the front of the car, old school manual steering provides an authentic driving experience. Power meets the pavement through familiar Trigo pin drives, which twist two 245/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As, and two 295/50R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As, around steel-winged knock-offs. And items like stainless fluid lines, adjustable coil-over-shocks and a deep-sump Canton oil pan provide the best of both form and function.
INTERIOR
Cobra interiors are usually stalwart and simple, but this roadster's lush leather cockpit is comfortable and appealing. Well-padded seats are firm, look as good as new and feature heavy duty Simpson harnesses for increased safety. In front of those seats, a color-keyed dash hangs a tight leather faade around a small mirror and a clean combination of Smiths and Lucas gauges. At the sides of that dash, lightweight doors are dressed in soft inserts and chrome handles. Below those doors, black carpet floats "COBRA" branded floor mats between a chrome hand brake, a chrome shifter, and Optima battery and a small fire extinguisher. In front of the driver, a wood-rimmed steering wheel spins highly polished spokes around a "COBRA" branded horn button. And behind the passengers, an aluminum-trimmed trunk hides ample space for cargo.
With classic looks, a killer engine and a fully sorted chassis, this awesome roadster provides unmatched thrills for an unmatched price. It's the latest in our string of high quality Cobras that combine vintage style with modern technology and 21st century build techniques. Don't miss your opportunity to own a turnkey Shelby thrill machine!
