Description

Many people remember the 1965 black and gold Hertz Shelby GT350s but few people may know that in 1968 Hertz ordered 224 Shelby GT350s to be used in their rental fleet. The car for sale is one of them and has been fully restored from the ground up on a rotisserie using many if not most NOS parts. The undercarriage is in perfect condition and restored to original factory standards. I have owned this car since 1986 or 34 years. This Shelby GT350 is equipped with a 302 engine with a Autolite Four Barrell carburetor and a C4 Automatic Transmission. Both have been rebuilt and only have 100 or so miles on them. The valve seats have been hardened for today's fuel and oils.
This car has Power Brakes, Power Steering, Air Conditioning, Fold Down rear seat, Tilt-A-Way woodgrain steering wheel, AM/FM radio, clock, and 10 spoke wheels, original shoulder harnesses, roll bar, and fog lights. The 10 spoke wheels are NOS originals not reproductions, they came directly out of FOMOC boxes from 1968. There are 5 of them including the spare. The original hubcaps and wheels are included and are in good condition. It is my understanding that no Shelby came from the factory in 1968 with 10 spoke wheels, certainly the Hertz cars did not. They were apparently all dealer or owner installed options. Tires are reproductions of the Goodyear Speedway 350 tire and are like new.
The interior seat coverings and dash pad are original and in excellent condition. The headliner and carpets were replaced. Seat belts are original including the shoulder harnesses. The original build sheet is included that lists all options.
The car is in showroom condition. It has been completely restored. To be honest the original color of the car was Highland Green but is now Candy Apple Red. I hate green cars. My very first car, a 1971 Torino, was also Highland Green and I painted it black. This car has been red for many years, it is not "Resale Red".
Sequential turn signals work and I do have a digital LED conversion kit for them that has never been installed if you are so inclined to upgrade them. The air cleaner has been signed by Carroll Shelby.
