1961 Studebaker Champ 3/4 ton Long Bed 6E12-122 with a 289 V8 Automatic
Description
Originally a California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) truck it arrived from the factory Omaha Orange. The next owner started to paint the truck red and black, however as the story goes, the wife didn't like red and black so he covered it in a cream colored house paint, which has surprisingly held up pretty well. The interior is still red / black. A second fuel tank was installed and the exhaust modified. I removed the second tank and the exhaust has been restored to original.
I try to get the Champ out once a week, although this year was more like once a month. Last drive was on 9/23/2017 for about 85 miles mostly highway miles. With the onset of winter I don't expect to drive the truck too far until spring.
There were only 359 of these trucks made for domestic use.
Engine has been cleaned up and parts have been powder coated or ceramic coated. The engine has NOT been rebuilt as far as I can tell. Additional photos available on request
Solid truck, no rust through that I could find. If I were to keep it, I would paint it. The young guys at work think it's perfect the way it is. You decide.
I'm selling the truck to reduce the number of antique vehicles.
