HISTORIC BACKGROUND: The basic body was designed originally by Raymond Loewy, was introduced in 1953 as the Studebaker Starliner, and was many years ahead of its time.It was so advanced and such a good design that Brooks Stevens was able to skillfully facelift it to fit right in with the very latest in auto-fashion as the Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk (1962-1964).Stevens cleverly borrowed the Thunderbirds roofline, Mercedes grill, and the current Lincoln Continentals expensive and elegant stainless cap molding. When equipped with the R3 and R4 engines, the Hawk proved itself at the Bonneville Salt Flats with flying-mile top speeds of up to 157.2 mph. The result was arguably the most handsome Studebaker Hawk made.Overall, a fitting way for the final iteration of the Hawk to go out. MILESTONE CAR SOCIETY STATUS
along with the Avanti, the Gran Turismo Hawk of 1962-1964 is recognized by the Milestone Car Society. This is an elite distinction shared only by the best, including such cars as the Jaguar XK-E, Continental Mark II, and others of this stature. #63V37117 VIN DECODING:63(1963 Model Year)V(289 cid V8 Engine) 37117(Production Serial Number). #63V-K6/3895 BODY TAG (On Cowl Near Passenger Side Hood Hinge) DECODING:63 (1963 Model Year) V (289 cid V8) K6 (Gran Turismo Hawk Coupe) OPERATIONAL REPORT
Owned by an avid Studebaker enthusiast who above all wants cars that drive nice, this one is a dream for both boulevard rides and cruise night. The power steering makes driving and parking a pleasure, and the rebuilt automatic shifts very nice.Youll notice the extra power provided by the R1 inspired 10.5 to 1 flat top pistons/compression ratio too.The brakes though manual stop the car with confidence. They are the best manual drum brakes I have witnessed from this era. The car has obviously been loved by every owner since new.You sense this in the little things
like windows that roll nice and smooth both up and down. The clock has been quartzed
so you have the great classic look and modern clock technology at work for you.ALL of the beautiful gauges work, as well as the horn, wipers, and all exterior lights. The radio however, is not working. ZIEBART & PAINT NOTES In the images, you will see Ziebart plugs on each of the doors.Ziebart was a highly successful rust-proofing system which began in 1959 and it is a big plus that this GT Hawk was given this treatment most likely when new by a very diligent owner. This may explain the uncommon solidness of the cars body and under-carriage. The Rose Mist Poly is one of the most beautiful colors available for Studebakers of this era. Both Thunderbird and Lincoln also had a near identical color. Many years ago, the car was re-painted.Years later, the hood, top and trunk had faded - but the sides were still shiny so only the hood, top, and trunk were again re-painted.But now, many year later after that, the sides are now a bit faded. They might respond well to careful polishing or clear-coating for a more uniform overall appearance. EXCELLENT INVESTMENT With the best of the 1950s cars hitting their peak many years ago, the best of the 1960s classics are just now coming into their own. Considering this cars Milestone Car Society status, famed Loewy/Stevens design history, and its low production volume
this Gran Turismo Hawk is poised for re-discovery with excellent appreciation potential. NADA VALUATION reflects growing interest in the Gran Turismo, and currently has the car valued at $25,600 for the better examples. I am an avid Classic Car enthusiast. After retiring from 30 years of Sales & Marketing in a Global 100 company, I began buying and selling Classic Cars and Collectibles as a collector and for friends and clients. This classic belongs to a friend and fellow classic car enthusiast. Please Note: as of this date, we have had over 3,000 eBay transactions with 100% Positive Feedback...this includes the sale of many Classic Cars to Buyers all over the world, including Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Australia, Russia, Canada, Japan and throughout the United States. IMPORTANT DOCUMENT & CONDITION OF SALE REMARKS:Bill of Sale, Georgia Title, and Vehicle Registration documents will be provided to the Buyer. This Vehicle is sold strictly as-shown and on a final as-is basis without any warranties expressed or implied due to age. Even the very best and most valuable classics will require additional maintenance and service - often without warning. Therefore, please expect to continue -as the new owner and caretaker of this classic- to perform additional maintenance and repairs. We hope that you are able to enjoy the car without the need for an immediate repair - but understand that this indeed could be found necessary. As seasoned collectors know, every time you start (or attempt to start) a classic car is a new experience...it could be a wonderful ride, or a new repair to undertake. That is the nature of the hobby, and this car (or any classic car) should not be purchased if you are not prepared for this reality. We have presented the car accurately to the best of our ability, but oversights are possible. Therefore -beforethe auction's end - bidders are welcome to examine the vehicle in person. All sales are final. Because this car is only lightly driven locally - and is untested for long trips - we recommend that it be transported to its new locale.
