Description
Our 1952 Studebaker 2R5 ½ ton pickup is for sale!
The early 50’s Studebaker pickups were ahead of their time in many respects. For starters, the sides of the box were double-walled, a first for American pickups. The box itself was designed to be very streamlined, with no stake holes or supports. The running boards were eliminated, as were the side steps on the bed, which gave these pickups a more modern look and one less place for rust to build up. The 169.9 cu. in., 80hp engine demonstrated the most horsepower per cubic inch than any other American light truck engine of its time. It was standard, as was the Borg-Warner three-speed on the column transmission. Other standard features on these pickups were dual sun visors, armrests on both sides, an ashtray, door locks, with the dimmer switch, vents and engine starter all foot-controlled.
By the mid-50’s, Studebaker did not have the resources to make substantial changes in design to keep up with the more modern looking Big Three. But, one has to admit that the early-50’s Studebakers were innovative, reliable, and popular.

Description -
In the beginning, this pickup was owned by the Father of the man I bought it from locally. The Father lived in Canada and formerly worked for Studebaker in Canada. The family bought him this pickup as a gift, because he would have been working on the Studebaker assembly line in 1952 when this truck was being built. The "Canada made" plate is clearly stamped in the pickup. The Father apparently at some time passed it on to the guy I bought it from (the son.) He is from the Phoenix area and he drove it from Seattle to Phoenix just to get it to his place. Not every vehicle made in 1952 would make it that far; I was impressed. He said he got along just fine. That fact alone really helped convince me to own it, even though it cost more than I would have liked to pay for a classic pickup. But, it's hard to buy a good one on the cheap. The only reason we are selling is to get money to do more of our restoration work on other cars. I hate to see it go!
It's most pressing needs are a new headliner and new floor mats. This pickup is in very, very good condition.
