1963 Studebaker Avanti, R2 Supercharged, 4 speed
This is a one owner car from an estate with the original title.Original window sticker. Mostly original paint.
This has never been damaged. The doors, hood and trunk fit as they did from the factory. The glass is still clear. The chrome has held up well for 56 years old.The rubber moldings are still soft. This has checking in some areas with touch up and the drivers rear quarter panel had stains from gas spilling. We blended the paint on that area and the rest of the paint on this Avanti is factory. The underside has no serious rust and the hog troughs are solid.
The interior is all original except we replaced the drivers seat cover and the carpets. The instruments all work properly. The dash lights, back up lights, horn, turn signals, brake lights, tail lights, head lights, wipers and interior lights work. The radio does not play.
The motor starts and runs smoothly. The original T10 4 speed shifts well. Factory power steering and the first American production car to have disc brakes.brakes. 3.73:1 Twin-Traction rear end. The Paxton centrifugal supercharger was sent to John Erb in Carson City, Nevada and he rebuilt it with a high-performance impellor. This has that wonderful whistle sound. It has remarkable power.
There are 5 new Coker correct tires.Very complete. Original purchase agreement, delivery documents and owner’s manual. Andy Granatelli helped break 29 speed records at Bonneville and proved that this could run 170 MPH in stock form and 200 MPH in modified form. There were only 4,647 Studebaker Avanti's produced. Of that number, there were less than 500 supercharged, 4 speed cars made. At the Mecum Monterey sale in August 2017 there were 2 supercharged, 4 speed cars sold. One sold for $90,000 and the other sold for over $120,000. This is a very rare car and a remarkable survivor.
