1929 Studebaker President 8 Model FEX-2 Seven-Passenger Sedan. An elegantly styled automobile, it features dual, side-mounted spare tires, a spacious and comfortable seven-passenger interior and a smooth running and powerful Studebaker Eight engine.
Major engine work on this vehicle includes new babbitt on the engine mains, connecting rods and .02 over-sized pistons. Also rebuilt during restoration were the starter, generator, water pump, distributor and the carburetor. The engine block head and face were properly machined, and a valve job included the adding of stainless steel valves. A rebuilt water pump with an aluminum billet was used, as was an outside oil filter. A complete 8-volt conversion and re-wiring was performed with Buss fuses for easy troubleshooting and maintenance. As a result, this vehicle’s engine runs extremely smoothly, so smooth in fact that a nickle has been made to balance on the engine while it was running.
Body restoration includes new upholstery and proper exterior body work with a refinishing in an attractive red with black fenders color combination. During restoration, the body’s original wood and top were found to be in very good condition and reused; the top was treated with a top coat sealant. All wheels were sandblasted, inspected for loose spokes, and completed with new rim flaps, tubes and tires. Other upgrades include turn signals, electric wipers and a low pressure electric fuel pump. Restored to be a reliable and enjoyable vintage automobile.
