Another lovely Landcruiser! what can be said about this one....she's a real gem! a bit rough round the edges but nothing that can't be sorted very easily. There are some marks around the body but no signs of rust breaking through (apart from some surface rust of places we have pulled back to inspect the condition). We were planning on giving this truck a full strip down (which is an easy task on these) sand down and repaint to make it all nice again but have decided to put her up for grabs as she is so her new keeper can see exactly what sort of condition she is in prior to restoration.
She has just had her MOT test (Ministry Of Transport test is simply to see if a car is in roadworthy condition so no rot or rust, braking performance, suspension etc etc are all tested to see if they meet the strict criteria set by the government) which she passed with flying colours! there were only two advisories during the test both for 'slight play in front wheel bearing OSF, NSF' this was an advisory nevertheless we have had both wheel bearings fixed.
The truck drives absolutely spot on, a quick blast of the glow plugs and she fires up and idles beautifully; a true diesel engine in the old style! The suspension glides effortlessly over any type of surface without a fuss, the gears are slick and easy to shift and the she accelerates very well never feeling under powered.
There are some added extras such as the all important power steering! for those who have driven old trucks will know is a god send! Using the non power assisted steering found in the old cruisers is like churning concrete, this being fitted with a bona fide Toyota hydraulic system makes life so much easier!From the factory the BJ40 came with drum brakes all round (remember them?:)) this was something that was the norm in that age but again not the best for modern day stop and start traffic; on this truck the braking is taken care of by Toyota sourced 4 pot heavy duty calipers and discs which transform the braking feel and performance! with just these 2 additions the truck has been transformed from something that needs a lot of effort to drive bordering on burdensome to a truck that is a real pleasure that can be enjoyed by all!!!
Overall an excellent example of a Landcruiser which with a little paint will make a solid, reliable, everyday usable cruiser.
