Bought this a few weeks ago, but have to sell already since I'm moving back to the city.

Complete disclosure and tons of photos. It's hard to know what you're buying with old cars and I want to give you as much information as possible so you can make a confident decision.

I paid $7400. I hope I get close to that back, but this is eBay. I set the BIN price low to expedite things, but may remove it.

MORE PHOTOS HERE in Dropbox since ebay only allows 24

Some of this information comes from receipts provided by the previous owner, some by a mechanic I had check it out (photo attached) and feedback from a restorer, and some from what I have discovered myself. Please see photos for body and interior details.

The awesome:

  • Great body style before the FJ80 rounded things off
  • Modern technology compared to the FJ60 with essentially the same body style, just as cool as FJ40, and all of these are way cooler than something brand new.
  • 178,155 original miles
  • Engine running strong and starts right up
  • 2-year old tires, <3k miles (4/14/15 highway Kumho Solus KR21)
  • 2-year old battery (4/22/15)
  • New shocks
  • New fuel pump
  • New U-joints
  • New shifter handle bushings
  • New OEM battery hold-down
  • Exhaust donut replaced
  • Keyless entry & alarm system
  • Passed CA smog 2/18/17
  • Previous owner had no concerns taking it from bay area to Tahoe regularly
  • Checked out at local shop (photo included), details below
  • 8mm front break pads, 6mm rear shoes

The super-honest punch list:

•AC not working - may just need r12 charge

•Front knuckles - time for rebuild to replace seal (this should be part of any baseline anyway)

•Tighten steering - it's a bit loose. forums say this could just be adjustment, or steering box, tie rods/ends

•Alternator - mechanic notes "14.2v, 13.6 under load. lights flicker. may need alternator soon.

•Rust spots: both front door front hinge area (see photos). rear bumper frame area (see photos). Various small surface rust on body. Exhaust.Patched small hole at bottom of front window passenger side A pillar to prevent intrusion.

•Keyless remote/alarm - works but not impressed--only does driver door and rear hatch, so the other door locks don't unlock even with the cabin controls. I'd fix the wiring and probably just remove or replace the keyless system and alarm.

•Power windows - yesterday the drivers button for the front passenger window Up failed. Down still works. All others work fine.

•Power windows - Some are a little slow going up or down but work. Power side mirrors work fine.

•Oil - mechanic: oil residue under engine-slight, trans-slight, rear diff, drive belts and hoses-ok.

•Radio - No antenna. Aftermarket radio and speakers--time to replace all that.

•Brakes - mechanic: pull to right when breaking, possible stuck caliper.

•Monitor: Alternator, Radiator, Rear diff

•Upholstery - Drivers seat needs repair, replace carpets, clean all

•Rear seat headrests missing

•Rear-view mirror loose

•Various plastics deteriorated or missing

•No spare tire/wheel

What I'd do next, and why I'm selling:

•Bought as a fun project, but now I have to move to the city. Can't work on it there, so what fun is that?

•Would do knuckle rebuild, and full baseline of fluids, belts, hoses as you should no matter which FJ you buy.

•I'd tighten up steering, though previous owner didn't mind it being a little loose.

•Would monitor all systems above (alternator, radiator, diffs)

•Would replace keyless system and smooth out all locks/windows .

•Would put in a new stereo and speakers, maybe a backup cam

•After that mechanical/annoyance stuff would then get on to body work and interior trim

•I don't care much about the AC but would probably deal with that eventually.

Knuckles, fluids, and steering is probably all DIY stuff. Including misc mech stuff, I think this would be a solid off-road rig for $2-3k. Then it'd be time to think body, paint, etc.

That's about everything I know, though let me know if there's anything else I can look into! Happy bidding!
