“1979 Toyota FJ40 with No Reserve”
For years, I had looked for a great late year Toyota FJ40 that I could drive and enjoy now and one that would be an excellent FJ to restore later, if I chose to do so.
I looked at lot of them, but could never find the FJ40 that was so different or so unique that would bring a smile to my face every time I would see or drive it.
Then in 2016, I found it.
A local car collector, who owned the FJ40 and had it since 1992, decided to put it up for sale.
Within minutes of seeing the FJ40, I immediately bought it and have loved owning it ever since.
Now, I will be living part of the year across the country and have decided that this wonderful 1979 Toyota FJ40 is ready for its new home and owner who will get so much fun having it and driving it.
I bought this FJ40 in early 2016, and since February 15, 2016, I have only put 157 miles on it.
Driven just 157 miles and garaged kept.
It runs good and I have never taken it four wheeling.
The frame is solid and the tires are excellent.
And take a look at the inside paint.
I knowsomeof thehistory of the vehicle based on what the previous owner told me when I bought it, but don't know how many owners it has had.
The body hasVin FJ40-301596. The engine has VIN 2F352117. From the information I found on the IH8MUD forums and SOR and CCOT Websites, the engine number does appear to beconsistentwith the build dates for the year of this FJ40. The frame looks to have the same VIN as body, however, part of the frame number is visible due to the front spring suspension metal plate (bolted on) that is blocking the full visibility of the entire number sequence on the frame. I am not sure about the transmission number.

The previous owner told me that he rebuilt the engine at around 130,000 miles, so the engine has just about 38,000 miles on it since then.
There are a few areas that have been prone to the typical rust for these FJ40s and they are:
*Rear driver side interior wheel well (please see photo)
*Some areas on the driver and passenger floor board (please see photo). I wanted to keep this FJ40 as close to original as possible, so I had the upholstery shop (the ones who did the headliner and dash and rubber door seals) tack weld small metal plates above the original FJ40 floorboard metal so that the plates could be taken out if desired.
* Rear cargo area under black mat has some rust in places
* The hood and a few areas on the front fenders have places where the paint is thin.
* A few rear rust spots
* A few side rust spots
There is no warranty for this 1979Toyota FJ-40.
