1966 Toyota FJ40 NO RESERVE Overbuilt drivetrain-steep approach on 35's KM2
Description
1966 Toyota FJ40 Landcruiser
Most people know the value of the FJ40's are going through the roof for clean examples and even more so with modified ones like the Icon FJ40's and others. Here is a great opportunity to pick up a running/driving-very capable FJ40 on its way to be extreme if you wanted to take it that direction. I have too many projects, this one is taking up the space I need to finish another so take advantage of the opportunity.
Engine is a Chevy 350 small block with 4 Barrel Edelbrock Carb. SM465 4 speed transmission. NP205 Transfer case.
Frame has been fully reinforced boxed and trussed. Dana 44 front axel with Spartan locker and Spicer locking hubs. GM 14 bolt in the rear with 4.10 gears and limited slip.
This machine could handle a lot more power, the frame and drive train is overbuilt to handle just about whatever you want to throw at it. I planned to drop an LS2 engine in.
This is a very solid FJ40. Pans are solid.
It has upgraded power steering to accommodate the beefier axles. Front disk, drum rear. Transfer case is not connected to the front axle currently, I have a drive shaft and an additional front end which will be included in the sale. Front axle has different gear ratio than the back currently. Included additional front end has the correct gears.
I drive this on the freeway at 65 MPH running at around 2000-2100 rpm with the current 35" tires on it. Lots of wheel travel/clearance. (I put a buddies 44's on it and they cleared-looked incredibly tough). It tracks perfectly straight and is easy to steer even with the big axles and tires.
The soft top is like new. The soft full doors are in good condition, there is a small patch on one of them. I also have 2 ea 1/2 vinyl doors and a bikini vinyl top for it. I have the original headlight bezel, a forward facing-fold forward back seat that needs reupholstered, a factory ignition switch and key, a good windshield wiper/motor for the passenger side and a few other parts. Full solid roll cage installed. All to be included with sale.
It has new 17inch steel black wheels with 35" BF Goodrich KM2 tires including a 5th for the matching spare. All of the auxiliary lights work very well including the bumper mounted driving lights, 2 very bright Rigid pods at the base of the windshield on each side, a rear mounted spot light on the roll cage and the upgraded headlights. It has an aftermarket very heavy duty front and rear bumper with a custom heavy duty cage to carry the matching spare wheel and tire on the back. The front bumper also has a Legendary WARN 8274 winch mounted. (see photos)
Interior has full gauges aftermarket installed. The speedo currently doesn't work and the gas gauge isn't connected. It is currently set up with a kill switch and push button start. It has a battery disconnect switch under the hood if it has to sit. Has a small exhaust leak on the drivers side manifold (just developed).
The frame is rust free-very solid, fully reinforced and painted not long ago. Body has been rubbed in a few places. Front fenders were reinforced at some point before I had it, body work over the reinforcement wasn't perfect but new fenders if you wanted are inexpensive and easy to put on. The hood has a couple of light dents. Floors are solid. Paint is OK, there is very light surface rust in a few places.
I don't have the full history on the vehicle. I purchased it for the most part as is. I taught my son how to drive a stick in it and have driven it this spring summer for cruising fun mainly. The wiring is a little on the "cut and paste" side done by the previous owner. Everything seems to work ok but I ordered a complete new wiring harness and fuse panel from Jegs that will be included. It is brand new-300$. Drivers side windshield wiper works but passenger side doesn't. I sourced a good motor to replace it which will be included. Also included is a CB radio mounted to the front of the center console. The Pioneer CD head unit is mounted in the roll cage overhead.
I don't know the actual mileage.
This vehicle is stored in a heated garage currently. I have it licensed through February of 2018.
This is a perfect vehicle for somebody looking for a serious wheeler that can be driven on the street or just a really tough looking FJ40. It will need some tinkering to get the carb right, runs smooth/strong when it is warmed up.
