Toyota built a very limited number of commemorative Celicas in honor of their United States Grand Prix sponsorship in 1980. Two hundredcars in each color of red, white and blue were built for a grand total of only six hundred. The cars featured special trim, a high tech (for the period) sound system with graphic equalizer and unique badging. The USGP cars were also the only US market Celicas to carry the Japanese market honeycomb grill. Included alsoare period-correct Chastain Shadow metallouvers on the rear side and hatchwindows.
This car is an all original, unmolested example. It has never been disassembled. It carries all of its model-specific original equipment, trimand paint. It should be considered a project because the enjoy overheats quickly although it runs well and doesn't leak. Also, there is some cosmetic rust where trim was attached. Having lived primarily in Kentucky, it is very solid with no structural rust. Five speed manual transmission and brakes function as they should.
The great thing about this car is that, unlike many other special edition cars, mechanical service parts are widely available at reasonable prices.Interest for special Japanese cars of the eighties is very high right now. This car would be a very unique and accessible entry into that part of the hobby. Easy fixes could make you a star of the next Radwood event. Personal inspection is welcome. Please don't ask if I would sell any of the unique parts separately. The car is being sold as-is, where-is. I can help coordinate shipping but it would be at the lucky buyer's expense. This is a no reserve auction so bid to win.Thank you for your interest and bids.
