1977 Toyota FJ-40 Land Cruiser 4×4
Genuine US market FJ-40, not an import Fully restored by a previous owner of 9 years 4.2L 2F inline six-cylinder engine Four-speed manual transmission White over Cygnus White exterior with black and Cygnus White/black interior Factory Four-wheel drive and locking hubs Power brakes with discs in front Roll bar and rear lift-up jump seats Newer glass and rubber seals New stainless hardware inside and outBuilt as a Jeep clone then later as a CJ challenger, Toyota’s FJ-series Land Cruiser was in production for over 25 years. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to offer this correctly restored 1977 Toyota Land Cruiser. This particular example was made in June 1977 and sold new in North America. This FJ-40 is a genuine US market truck and not a Costa Rican or Columbian import. The values for the genuine US import FJ’s have increased considerably due to the recent flood of the imported FJ’s into the States from other markets of the world. The American FJ’s were better opted with such equipment as a under dash heater, front bucket seats, factory roll bar, factory seatbelts with warning light, MPH speedometer, front disk brakes and a hardtop with vent windows.
Dressed in White over Cygnus White, this SUV’s paint and trim are in overall excellent condition. It has new glass panels and fresh door and window seals. The bodywork is straight and solid, the rear cargo area looks great, the engine bay is extremely tidy, the battery appears new and the metal bumpers are in very good order. Changes for 1977 included removing the front door vent windows while adding rear vent windows on U.S. hardtop models.
Under the hood is Toyota’s vaunted 2F engine, a 4.2L straight six-cylinder known for its gobs of low-end torque. Mated to the engine is a four-speed manual transmission with a two-speed transfer case. The horn and the oil pressure gauge are inoperable. Driver convenience features include power brakes with discs in front.
This truck rolls on Capitol All-Terrain tires, size 235/75R15 at all four corners. Each tire is wrapped around a steel wheel, topped by a factory wheel cover and locking front hubs.
Most of the interior is painted Cygnus White with black trim. Inside, the black front bucket seats are in excellent condition. As expected, there’s no carpeting on the floor but the black mats in place are in great condition and the headliner looks fantastic. Also the hardtop hardware has been switched to fresh stainless hardware. The standard rollbar is fitted behind the bucket seats. A three-spoke steering wheel faces the driver, the inner door panels are in very good order while the instrument panel, with its full set of gauges, is in excellent order. In back, the barn doors open to reveal the lift-up jump seats that move out of the way for more cargo space.
Competition to this Toyota in 1977 included Chevrolet’s K5 Blazer, Dodge’s Ramcharger, Ford’s Bronco, GMC’s K5 Jimmy, Nissan’s Patrol (outside U.S.) and Plymouth’s Trailduster.
If you’re in the market for a classic, body-on-frame SUV, it would be a mistake to overlook this Toyota Land Cruiser. Visit MotoeXotica Classic Cars today to check this one out or risk someone else buying it before you can.
