Description

The Land Cruiser is a legend of Japanese overlanding that has become somewhat of a cult classic among off-road enthusiasts. As one of Toyota’s longest running models with its first generation in 1951, the Land Cruiser is tried and true both on road and off. This 1989 FJ62 introduced a number of modern luxuries into the Land Cruiser line, including air conditioning, a rear heater, and a more practical interior. Like the generations before it, the FJ62 (and FJ60) became famous for tackling any terrain you could throw at it, and doing so with unbelievable reliability.

This FJ62 was acquired by its previous owner in 2000 and spent the following 18 years as his daily driver in Texas. 150k of its 294k miles were added during his ownership. Before finding itself in Texas, the car was registered in California and Arizona, safe from rust in dry, salt-free conditions. With rust being such a major issue on classic Land Cruisers, it is truly amazing to find an example with ZERO RUST. In fact, the underside of this car looks newer than most Land Cruisers with a fraction of the mileage. Power comes from an electronically fuel injected 3F 4.0-liter inline-six paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission that was rebuilt 9k miles ago in 2016. R134 A/C conversion in 2009, while more recent maintenance included rebuilt brake calipers in 2017, new belts and spark plugs within the last year, as well as a tune up. A new radiator and hoses were installed in 2014, and the automatic transmission was rebuilt with Toyota OEM parts in 2016 at 286,281 miles. This FJ62 is now being offered with records since 2000, an owner's manual, a clean Carfax, and a clear Texas title. The car drives exceptionally well and is very comfortable on the road.

The exterior was professionally repainted in 2018, including a sanding, primer, three coats of color-matching Toyota paint, and three coats of UV resistant clear coat.Updated shocks have been installed, and 235/75 all-terrain tires are mounted on the 15″ wheels. The side mirrors were replaced with non-powered items, but the seller reports the mirror adjustment electrical to be functioning. Some indentations are present on the front and rear bumpers. The interior upholstery is worn in several areas and is believed to be original. The driver's seat has small tear and the rear headrests are not included. Power locks and windows function.294k miles are shown on the odometer, about 150k of which were added by the seller over the past 18 years. The fuel gauge indicates empty when the tank is less than ¾ full because of an issue with the in-tank sender. A crack is visible on the dash above instrument panel. The original radio has been replaced with more modern head unit.

With the intense following these cars have and their well-earned reputation for being spectacularly capable off-road, it’s no wonder these cars have become an overlanding icon. The capable, boxy design and upgraded interior looks just as at home in the deep woods or the Moab trails as it does on Main Street, and feels both purposeful and practical on any terrain.
