1975 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER FJ40
Description
1975 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 with approximately 1375 miles. This is a complete nut and bolt custom restoration. Built it for myself, but have decided to sell and move on to the next project.
Front Axle
Front axle has 4:11 Toyota ring and pinion gear with an Eaton Detroit locker. It has G2 4340 chromoly inner axle shafts and birfields. They are 30 spline at all three points with Aisin locking hubs with chromoly inners like that that came out on 1978 FJ40's and pickups, the birfield is larger than the 75 spindle. It has more modern FJ80 front disc brakes with two piston calipers and heavy vented rotors. Trail Gear 6 shooter knuckles and trunnion bearing eliminators with neoprene trail wiper felt replacements to top off a bullet proof front axle. 1 ¼ DOM drag link and cross member with FJ80 tie rod ends connect the 12:1 GM power steering box with almost perfect geometry provide excellent handling and strength. It's connected to 4" lift springs with Man-A-Fre U bolt flip kits for great clearance.
Rear Axle
The rear axle has the Toyota 4:11 ring and pinion also with an Eaton Detroit Locker. It has Toyota inner axle shafts with all new bearings and seals and lug nuts. It also has Man-A-Fre U bolt flip kits connected to 4"lift springs.
Suspension
It is lifted 4" with leaf springs from Man-A-Fre and a 1" body lift. The front has a shackle reversal kit from Man-A-Fre and the shackles were trimmed to provide one more inch of lift. The rear has 2" longer shackles to even the front lift so there is a total of 6" of lift all the way around. The front axle has Superduty shock towers which allow all the shocks to be 3" longer providing for 6" more shock travel so the only limiting factor of this build which was the short front shocks was changed to allow all 4 shocks to be the same length. Bilstein mono tube nitrogen shocks are installed. This FJ will run down the highway at 75 mph straight as an arrow and take on any off road condition with amazing articulation and traction.
Drive Train
Newly installed 350 gen 1 engine we installed an Edelbrock Performer cam with Crane 1:5 aluminum roller tip rocker arms. We are running an Edelbrock Performer RPM air gap aluminum intake manifold with an Edelbrock 650 performer AVS thunder off road carb fed by an Edelbrock performer fuel pump. Spark is coming from a MSD Street fire ignition and wires. It has a melling 15% higher volume oil pump with a Moroso 7qt oil pan to provide better oil flow at higher RPM's without draining the oil system. It has an aluminum Edebrock high volume water pump and a Black Magic electric cooling fan with a full size aluminum racing radiator with the Man-a-fre conversion kit. The stock radiator is 1 gal short to cool a 350 engine. It has Sanderson exhaust manifolds, these provide the flow and sound of headers but are cast iron with silver ceramic coating inside and out to keep the engine compartment cool. They are fantastic for V8 conversions. We ran 2 ½ inch exhaust tube into a single 3" tail pipe with a Flowmaster 50 series muffler. Transmission is freshly rebuilt 700r4 with all the newest upgrades to handle about 800 hp and a B&M mega shifter. We connected it to the Advanced Adapters Orion 4:1 cast iron transfer case with twin shifter sticks and adapter kit, it's finished with the Man-a-fre disc brake conversion parking brake to get rid of the junk drum assembly. The drive lines were custom made by a very reputable local drive line builder.
Body
The front fenders, aprons, hood, bib, headlight bezel and windshield frame are all powder coated. The tub is painted. The whole rocker panel is 3/16" thick steel plate and wraps underneath and makes a fantastic body armor panel as well as the built in step. It was built with a 1975 front end grafted to a 1972 tub as you may notice the lack of a gas door. I used 1965 front turn signals with LED bulbs and installed custom LED running lights below the headlights. Every light bulb is LED including the headlights there is not one incandescent bulb on this rig. It has a Best top soft top and a SOR bikini top. The rear has been cleaned of all mounting holes and smoothed with an aluminum diamond plate rear plate hard mounted. We used the Man-A-Fre front winch bumper and rear tail light rock guards.
Frame
Frame was completely reconfigured with center support moved back 12" for the automatic trans to fit which located it exactly between the rear spring hangers for great flex strength. All new scab plates and engine mounts were welded in and the frame was media blasted and powder coated. The fuel lines, trans cooler lines and electrical are all ran inside the frame for protection and great looks. The trailer hitch in the rear bumper was cut out and framed in 3/8" steel and the receiver was recessed to hide the hitch pin, the monster hook was powder coated to match and has a locking hitch pin.
Electrical
Electrical is a Painless waterproof harness with a new headlight and windshield wiper switches and a single wire alternator. All gauges are Auto Meter LED in a Man-A-Fre cluster. We took out all the factory heater defroster assembly which allowed the Optima gel battery to be mounted on its side where the old fan assembly was. We installed a Vintage Air compact hot rod heater defroster unit and it works fantastically. It has an aluminum heater core and provides way more BTU's and CFM. The ash tray was replaced with a switch bank for the off road lights. The front off-road lights are Heretic, and the rears are Rigid Ind.559-554-six two six nine.
